Hytera files appeal of $543.7 million U.S. ruling in Motorola Solutions dispute

Hytera Communications yesterday filed its appeal of a U.S. district court’s judgment that the China-based LMR manufacturer should pay $543.7 million to Motorola Solutions as compensation for the use of stolen DMR trade secrets and copyrighted software, as well as numerous other rulings in the case.

I feel bad for Hytera. They went to a lot of trouble to get these patents with malicious purpose. How about 85 percent of the cost of each DMR capable radio sold since 2008 plus $1.5B?

Here it is in a nutshell. How do we know these employees didn’t steal the info from Motorola, but after they went to Hytera claim they invented it while working for them. While Moto should sue them, they have no $ so that would be a waste.


3 employees—Samuel Chia, Y.T. Kok and G.S. Kok—accessed more than 7,000 Motorola documents prior to each of them leaving and joining Hytera shortly in 2008. However, Hytera attorneys described the three engineers as “bad apples” who did not share with anyone else at Hytera that the DMR trade secrets and software were taken from Motorola.

Stealing IP is China's way. My money says Hytera sought them out and colluded with them prior to leaving MSI. The point of suing them out of business is just that, put them down. And guess what, they stole IP ad they (and the rest of these Chinese scumbag companies who steal our and others' IP) should be put out of business.
