The R3 is a bit of a battery hog -- it seems that if you keep the LCD screen off it's fine, but the LCD is the best part of the radio!

Most of what I have read about them was nothing but bad. As a matter fact I have never heard anything good about them.

I'm here a lot
It covers 0.495 to 2459 mHz and has the capability to monitor
Broadcast TV, Amateur TV and wireless camera signals. Can view
images in color or monochrome.

If you like full spectrum coverage it sounds like a decent radio.

From what I have been reading it is quite deaf in the 2GHz range. Considering some people got it to snoop on Video signals in that range they have been dissappointed. But then others say you just need a decent directional antenna and it works great!

I was thinking of getting one to take out with me. Then if anyone ever questions what you have you quickly switch to TV mode and say that it is just a portable TV! No more questions. But the price premium for the TV function seems to be about double. Bit expensive for me.
