Butler County has begun the process of building out a site on this system. It appears as though they are going with Phase II, 800 MHz. There are no new licenses or applications in ULS yet that I've seen.

If I read the bid spec correctly- 700 MHz . . . . . And since the licenses are handled differently on the 700 MHz spectrum- u might not see a license show up for a while.

Why are they are abandoning their UHF 470 megahertz system? Bear UHF system works really well and I can pick it up here in Allegheny County I'm just a little rubber duck full-scale.

Oh, okay. I didn't get a chance to read any of that. I was just going by what was in the network configuration. They have six 800 MHz channel pairs entered, but those must just be placeholders.

I never looked. But that might be what they did while going thru the process for their 700 MHz channels. There are config issues that have to be addressed for 700 MHz so the RF footprint doesn't cross state lines. If it does, they either have to shape the signal to keep it from doing that or get waivers. Motorola has been known to do that. Same thing was done on our system since we were having issues getting freqs licensed to bring new system online while our old system was still in operation. 2 of our 7 freqs had to be changed after the equipment was bolted in at the tower sites.

What does the coverage of a Butler County radio system have to do with being able to scan/listen to it in Allegheny County?

Public Safety users are more worried about coverage in their primary response area. . . . .

But to answer why they are abandoning their 470 system. . . . . . There has been lots of info on lots of scanner lists (include Radio Reference) about this.

See this link

Basically in a few years, they lose their frequencies. . . . . . .

No it came out wrong when I did the speech to text on my phone LOL. What it really was supposed to say is I asked why they were abandoning their 470 system that they just put in place what not even 10 years ago and it was supposed to say that I can pick them up in my basement here at home with just a rubber duck and there's some systems in Allegheny County that I can't even pick up in my basement at home with a rubber duck antenna on my scanner. Butler County has great coverage on their 470 system it's loud and clear.

I think Allegheny county is going to be okay I don't see the FCC taking the UHF T Band Away
It will be interesting to see.As of now NYC and others are fighting it.If it does go i don't foresee it happening for a few more years. That being said this is just my opinion we will see how it plays out.

It seems the licenses have been granted for Butler’s system. WRAH499 and WRAE930 were granted within the past month on the 800MHz band. I’m going to start monitoring these frequencies but I don’t know when testing will start
