Thank you - it seems that I am receiving everything now just as before the rebranding. I am completely lost concerning the 'custom bandpland' would my pro-106 have done this automatically ? I am determined to learn this Viper system & my Pro- 106 Radio Shack scanner. Any idea where I could get some tips. I have had scanners 30 plus years , but I am lost when it comes to this Viper system

Ok here's a picture of what my trunking tables look like in Win500.

You really only need the first two lines but since that's what I got when I downloaded from the RR database and it is working I left well enough alone.

BTW my scanner is the same as yours, only the GRE version.

The scanner I had problems with is Radio Shack pro-106 - I also have a pro-2006 Realistic aka Radio Shack that I bought about 1991 & a BC70 XLT that I bought in 1985 I can't believe they are both still working. The old scanners are simple this Viper stuff is a whole new ball game . I really do appreciate the assist.

Success monitoring re-banding

It seems that there are quite a number of folks who are having problems with monitoring after re-banding. Thanks to a little common sense, and the help of the knowledgeable folks on here (namely kd8x, trumpetman, and Drafin), my PSR-500 is working like a champ.

Rockingham County has four sites. Three of those sites (Eden, Reidsville, and Mayodan) have been re-banded. Wentworth will probably make the switch very soon. Unfortunately, I'm not able to receive any other VIPER sites from my home location with the portable. Maybe in the next few days I'll be able to confirm other sites in the Guilford and Alamance County area.

setuphelper, it sounds like we have a lot in common. I have been a scanner buff since '89-'90 timeframe. It was easy to monitor basic VHF and UHF repeater systems, even with a 16-channel Bearcat. Along came an 800 MHz trunking system that was a beast to figure out for someone with limited knowledge. Turns out, that system opened up a whole new world to me.

I was away from the radios for a while, and now (like setuphelper), have a new monster to tackle. What a welcome back to the hobby! Don't give up guys, there are way too many knowledgeable folks on here.

bgodlen84 I watched a lot of online videos then carefully redownloaded the frequencies I wanted from Radio Reference- apparently it works. I am getting a lot of encouragement from the good folks on this forum. I am a novice at the Viper stuff , sorry I cant help more.

kc4wsd - thank you for the encouragement ! We will overcome this Viper stuff ! When I first started out with scanning you just went to Western Auto and bought "crystals" when you needed to add a frequency. Then just watched 10 little red lights - wow - times have changed !

Did a lot of house keeping this evening, I'm fairly certain we're caught up on rebanding in the database with the possible exception of sites completed on Friday.

To all that are submitting stuff to the database, posting to the forums, PMing & emailing the admins, your help is much appreciated with keeping up with what sites are rebanded. Seems the VIPER folks and contractors have got things down to a fine routine and moving quickly across the state.

For those still having trouble, keep trying and keep asking questions. Everyone needs to at least skim this thread and be familiar even if rebanding hasn't reached your area yet...it will sooner or later.

I agree with what trumpetman posted. But would also add that if you are having trouble please include at the very least the site you are trying to monitor, the make and model of your scanner and what software package you are using. It will certainly help to eliminate having to wait for those questions having to be asked and answered and keep the posts here streamlined and containing pertinent info.

OK so I figgured out how to change the freq for the site. My home patrol is bow showing that site with full signal. I've got the home patrol set on discovery mode for that site . sorry I'm some what new to this . ill report any findings .

Viper help

I am new at this hope I am doing it right PRO - 106

RR has now posted the new frequencies on HighPeak Mtn. And I have already changed them to that before posting. Now all I need to do is get help programing the logical chanels and or the LoFreq/HiFreq/Step/Offset as indicated in the information RR has provided. I bought the software / programing cable from Radio Shack The BuTel ARC500 is in my computer but I do not know how to use it and the cable Driver is not installed and trying it gives me an error report and said I do not have authorization to go further

If anyone in the Charlotte Metro area needs a starter file for VIPER I've got one that I can send ya that has everything set up correctly and has been verified to be working. The only catch to me sending it out is a nice steak dinner & you taking the time to actually look through how the set up is laid out. Ok, I'll let you guys slide on the steak dinner but still take the time to look at it if I send it out :wink: I use FreeSCAN and have a 396XT so that's the type of file that I can provide. I can't offer files for other units because I don't have them nor the software.

As someone previously stated scanners just aren't what they used to be. They're getting to the point of being dang near as complex to program as some of the newer trunking radios out there. I've been around radio and using scanners since I was 12 and I'm still trying to learn the in's and out's of VIPER. Much thanks to Chris, aka tumpetman, for his "tech support" time

It is a little bit of a daunting task. I searched the sites that i could pick up with a pro96 and a homepatrol. I then had to go through and find all the talk groups I wanted to hear and the different departments. This is alot to sift through. Ive only been scaning on and off for about 8 years. I recently built my first dipole to be able to pick up all the freq around me. I thank all of you for your info and helping us little guys out.
I have unitrunker working aswell but have no idea what im looking at. If someone interested in macon co could pm me what I need to do id gladly provide the info feom unitrunker or my home patrol

Chances are very good that Wentworth has rebanded also but it may have changed CC's....search the 852-853 Mhz range and see if you can't find the ID for Wentworth again??? I know I lost Salisbury for over a week after rebanding but come to find out they completely changed frequencies in order to get away from interference....It appears that that the techs are rebanding the complete county sites at the same time frame...Wouldn't make sense to only reband half the county.

My pro - 106 seems to be working great. Thanks for the assist everyone. But I have another question if I may. Today someone with a scanner exactly like mine {Pro- 106} asked for me to help in programming since he lost Viper as well. We hooked the 2 scanners together and did the clone thing. His scanner still would receive nothing. at all no Viper no conventional .. nothing. I brought his scanner home & plugged it into my software and programmed it exactly like I had did mine yesterday. Again his scanner will pick up nothing . not even weather. Any ideas how to fix this ? thanks for any help.
