<snip for brevity> ...not even weather. Any ideas how to fix this ? thanks for any help.

If the scanner can not receive the WX channels then there is something more wrong than just the programming. The only solution I can suggest (and this may not help) is to reset the scanner to factory default then try to reupload the programming from your software.

To do a full factory reset (from the user's manual):

During the power up sequence press the following keys ---

0, 1
Destructive, clears working memory and
resets all Global settings to factory
defaults. Does not affect V-Scanners.

0, 2
Destructive, resets all Global settings to
factory defaults. Does not affect working
memory or V-Scanners.

0, 5
Destructive, executes EEPROM memory
test, then clears working memory and
resets all Global settings to factory
defaults. Does not affect V-Scanners.

I hesitate to give you further information about resetting the radio to factory firmware levels, but if you are so inclined they can be found in the manual as well. But, as with all advice on resetting radios, use these codes and the above that I listed at your own risk. (In other words I am not responsible for the scanner if you "brick" it.) :)

Which operating system are you using on your computer? If we can get your cable working I may be able to help you out on the trunking table entry.

First select the trunked system from the left hand column labeled Object Browser -> Trunk System Objects -> Trunk Systems. Once you do this it will list all the trunked systems in your scanner. Find the one that you need to change the trunking table on and go to the right to the column marked "T-Tables" and make sure it is marked custom. Directly beside it (marked with the red circle on my graphic below) is where you would enter the custom trunking tables. Enter them as shown in the graphic below and you should be good to go.

But first we gotta get that cable working. I have not tried to enter a custom band plan manually. I guess I should look into that as well.

And here is what it looks like in PSREdit500:

Again the red circle brings up the trunking table where you can edit the offsets and such.

Drag . thank you for the advice . I am going to check with the owner of the scanner before I do the 'nuke option' I don't want to be responsible for bricking the scanner either even tho essentially that's what it is now, so really he has nothing to lose. Thanks - FYI I just down the road in GF

Perhaps the problem you are experiencing is not with the programming itself, but more of a hardware issue. I would take it apart and make sure the BNC antenna connector is still connected to the main board. Might need resoldering.

Faith Mtn & Salisbury VIPER Site

I'm not 100% sure if I should have posted this in the main VIPER thread or not, but since I've not noticed it until both rebanded that's why I'm putting it here.... If it's in the wrong place I'll gladly take my slap on the wrist and understand if it's moved :D

98% of the time I'm monitoring the Faith Mtn & Salisbury (Troop E HQ) sites since I live in Salisbury. I got up this morning around 7 or so and noticed while monitoring these 2 sites that they kept switching between the primary CC & the alternate CC. This only went on for about 10 minutes, every two minutes or so. The only way I picked up on it was I had the radio in my hand and watched it change several times. I double checked the database to make sure it wasn't just my 396XT acting goofy. After checking the DB it was in fact the primary and alternates for each site. Each time I saw it had changed I punched hold and the "motorboating" CC traffic was present indicating it was in use. I've got the unit set for CC only scanning and only have the primary and alternate's programmed for each site, & the 2 sites are programmed to the same quick key. After that roughly 10 minute segment both sites reverted back to the primary CC's and have been there ever since.

Anyone else seen this happening, or could it have possibly been a hiccup at the site? Since I've been monitoring VIPER after getting the 396XT I've never noticed (on these 2 sites) anything other than the primary CC's being used.

Perhaps the two were arguing who was getting up and going to work today, LOL :D

EDIT - The rebanded freq's for Faith Mtn are 853.3750 Prim, 853.0375 Alt & Salisbury 853.9250 Prim, 853.3375 Alt.......

VIPER Towers in Mitchell County:
Locust Knob has been rebanded.
Woody's Knob is currently down as it is going through the rebanding process.

The freescan does not have Mot Custom/Reband Type II I have looked .

Make sure the system is a [MOT2] then click on the site [M82S] and look under the site name box. It will say site type "Mot 800MHz Standard (Type II)"

Click on that and change it to "Mot Custom/Reband Type II"

The site should change to [M82C] in the tree on the left in the white box. It will also display a System Band Plan at the bottom of the program...fill that in with the 2 previously referenced lines and you will be good to go.

Make sure you do this for each site, it will not automatically trickle down to the rest of the sites you add.

Add Greensboro A&T (C123 site 05) to the list with a new Primary CC of 853.8875. Also Tramway (6038 site 09) has been rebanded, just not sure of the new freqs. It does also appear that all the sites in the central Piedmont area have received the standard 15mhz shift down in freq.

*** The above has been added into the submission area ***

Enjoy

Thanks for the help and information in this thread.

I am trying to edit my custom band plan now in FreeSCAN.

On the first line, I enter 851.025 ,step 25, offset 440.
Line two I enter 851.0125, step 25, offset 0.

When I click "Auto Upper" it sets the upper frequency for the first line to 840.000.

Is this what it should generate? It just doesn't look right to me.

As always, thanks for the info.

***DERP*** I should have read the FIRST post in the thread. Guys, don't click Auto Upper.
