What would be the frequency for those in the comments number 14

Do you have your tower control channels programed?

Obviously you do or you wouldn't be hearing anything.

Now forget about frequencies, move on to adding the TG numbers.
Just add the DEC numbers for each group you want to hear.
Example: 17009 for ISP D18 Dispatch A
17010 for ISP D18 Dispatch B etc,etc, etc.

You have to quit thinking like your programing an old analog scanner where
You added frqz. for each agency you wanted to hear.

Think of the TalkGroups as codes assigned to the individual units. The site is likely transmitting dozens of TalkGroups you do not want to hear. However as the example above shows, when "17009" (for ISP D18 Dispatch A ) transmits, I want to hear that. Each one of the numbers from the 14th post in this chain that you want to hear should be added as a talk group. They appear to begin with "17" so those are the numbers you want. Does that make sense?

Add them in decimal format, not hexadecimal. And yeah, program all of the control channels (and alternates, if you so wish) into the V-Scanner "folder" as the system will remain in the bank, folder, whatever you want to call it, regardless of the scan lists. TSYS is the system, TGRP is the actual talkgroup. They're independent. Also, the system is NFM rather than FM so make sure that's programmed in. I also have audioboost enabled, have the system set to ROAM with the low and high tolerances set at 10 and 75, respectively. You may need to turn on the attenuator as well since there aren't any sites in your county, may be a weak signal depending on the terrain. Another tip, get a good antenna tuned for 700/800 mhz if you plan on using your scanner mostly or entirely for monitoring Starcom21.

My next question how would I find out what troopers that are in my town at any given time use what tower.

...tower closest to me....

I recommend the "Easier to Read" manual from Mark.

The way to begin is to look for the County you are in or nearest. Program that system. Now, it is possible you will get a better signal from a neighboring County. It takes a little experimentation.

You need only program in the control channel. However, they do change sometimes. So until you get familiar with it you may wish to program in all the frequencies.

Then you add talk groups you want to hear. Some are State-wide, some are regional, some are local. The system is user location aware. It knows if someone is not in their regular area. For example an officer from E. St. Louis traveling to Springfield will still have radio contact. You may want to begin with State police Dispatch A and B, ISPERN, maybe some others, district 18 or 11. You can add St. Claire County sheriff, E. St. Louis police. Use the decimal or hex, whichever you prefer and have the radio set appropriately. Decimal is fine and generally easier to follow.

The only way to know which trooper is where is having inside knowledge of the district/department. After some time you get to recognize some unit numbers and voices and can follow if you program in radio IDs.

Decimal numbering is a base 10 (0-9, 10 numbers then it restarts), your street address, ATM PIN, any number you use or see is decimal (with a few exceptions) whereas hexadecimal (hex) is base 16 (16 numbers, 0-9 and 10-15 denoted using the letters A through F, so 1000 in decimal is 3E8 in hexadecimal). Mathematics aside, decimal is far easier to deal with as it is what we're taught from the day we walk into our first math class. Ignore the whole hex issue, use decimal whenever possible simply because it's easier to use. I mean, who wants to convert decimal to hex by hand (divide decimal formatted number by 16 with result as an integer ie no fractions, that's the first digit, divide remainder by 16, second digit, keep going until result is 0).

While his explanation is Spot on You need not concern yourself with it.
In your radio settings you can select between Dec. or Hex.
Select Dec.
Then move on to entering the TG starting with 17009 etc.
The TG numbers listed have already been converted to the Dec. format from
The Motorola programing code.

I believe that model should be an add new TGRP option you should look for

then you can enter the 17008 and so on...
for each department you want to listen to you have to add new TGRP

HEX ID

you don't enter a hex code into the scanner only the dec ID. the Hex is for the 2 way radios such as the police carry.

The directions that came with this book does not help at all. Very little information.

When it comes to hex codes like the photo I added why can't I find that I can find where the Nac code goes.

And do you know is this a talk group system.
