• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is this APX7000XE a nice radio?

And if by chance you're a ham, forget it. This radio won't do ham bands as it comes to you. And you can do a lot better than $5K for an almost equivalent unit on ebay these days.

Owning one of these radios requires a radical renovation of how you handle and interact with programmable radios. The 7Ks require W7 or 8 platforms; if you try XP on them you'll wait and wait for commands to be executed, just to start with. And if you do try XP and you're not running SP3 the APX program will not even load in your machine. On top of all that, the actual program is complicated and somewhat difficult to understand and follow. If I had it to do all over I'd try to get a somewhat complicated codeplug from someone and then spend my time modifying it for my needs. The FPP will also save you a lot of time and trouble and, IMHO, no non-Part 90 radio should be without it.

I don't know what platform you're using but WindowsXP on a CF52 or CF53 handles the CPS without any problems.

I run a Dell B1000 or something like that, with SP3 and at least 2GB or memory and the CPS walks instead of running. With W7 it flies. I don't know what the problem is but as long as I have W7 on my much newer Dell laptop it doesn't bother me that much. I think the CPS was written by a disgruntled elf in the Black Forest of Germany.

It runs just fine on my work laptop, XP SP3 and a Centrino of some sort. Not any slower than Astro 25.

I actually really like the APX CPS. It allows much more flexibility than any previous RSS/CPS package. As long as you're using a good computer, it flies.

That flashcode is a VERY bad hackjob.. it contains duplicate features:

H869: Hardware Multikey Encryption
Q498: Hardware Multikey Encryption w/ OTAR
and
QA01749: Legacy SW System Key Enable
QA01648: Advanced System Key Enhanced Operation

and even worse:
H37: SmartNet Systems Operation
H38: SmartZone Systems Operation

whoever (it was NOT motorola) created it needs to go back to hacking school.

Not to mention, an APX7000XE has a model number of H49TGD9PW1AN.. The model number listed is for a standard 7000, so most likely it's just a plastic cosmetic conversion. Also, alot of those flashcode options are native to current Host R09, and not the Host R06 that's in it, so you're going to have stuff that won't function.. Whoever created it, wasn't too bright..

Someone with depot that doesn't know how to use it. Who would have guessed that?
