hello does anybody no if there's any other software you can use other than the software that come with the iscan.

No, only the supplied software. I'd be surprised to see a third party software, due to the fact that the radio needs it to update and edit the database on the SD card and also the firmware on the radio.

Thanks John, got my 107 last week and didn't even think about updating anything yet, but after seeing your post I opened up the i-scan software and downloaded the newest database ( #8 ) . I had version # 4 in my laptop. So now I'm updated. Cool.. Just wondering, do you know how long the subscriprion for updating is good for, from the time you buy the 107 scanner. Thanks Blake

It probably lasts forever because if you don't own the software it won't update. If that's not the case I'm sure I'll hear from the developers.

Well when I was shopping for mine it was kind of strange. I have many RS around me (100 mile radius) and half the area to the east of me is trunked and some digital, and the other half where I live is all conventional. All the stores in the trunked and digital area had no idea a new scanner was even available. In the conventional area every store had 5 or more of the pro-107 in stock. I guess I'm lucky to live on the hillbilly side with all the conventional frequencies, it's so backward and hilly here I think it will be quite a while before they upgrade it. You do the math on this one, or is radio shack targeting certain areas with this scanner?

There are numerous 10%-15% off coupons at Radio Shack right now, so make sure you ask for the online discount if you buy it locally. I was able to get the 10% off today using the Code FRNFM10 at check out at my local RS. $161.99 plus tax out the door.

Here's what I like over my Uniden BCT15X I bought 4 weeks ago. 5 min programming over the 100 plus hour with my 15X. PRO-107 Hard copy paper manual I can pick up and browse. 15X no manual or anyway to print one out. If you don't have a computer you are SOL. Audio and sensitivity I'd give the nod to the 107. I have both of them running side by side with similar antennas and the Pro-107 has a better front end.

BCT15X has 50 state programming, but just the basic conventional. WTH were they thinking and not including the entire database? With memory so cheap why couldn't they include everything? PRO-107....has it all plus unlimited updates to RR.

RR is not the wholly grail to data bases, but give me a break. Uniden you need to take a serious look at what the 107 does and get your act together. If I had $1 for every messed up scanner post in the Uniden section or programming ??? I'd be rich and that's only the past 4 weeks! My BCT15X is an excellent scanner once you learn the in's and outs. Old school thinking yes! If you can't stand the pain then you aren't up for the gain. Give me a break. RS did it stupid, simple. Uniden and others, do the same. It's really not that hard.

Right On K7, you must of gotten the last one in Snohomish. I think they has 6 to start last week, I got the 4th one, so congrads. I am having a lot of fun comparing it to my pro 97 while sitting here recovering from knee surgery last week. ( You should of seen me hobbling into RS last week the day after surgery to pick it up), HA!! ( a cripple in sweat pants, I could Almost walk ).. It is really cool to be able to import a bunch of stuff and then decide you don't like the way it is set up and then just simply plug the card into the laptop and delete it all ( it did take a little while to figure out just how to do that, and I'm still learning this thing, ) and do it all again. I was laying in bed this mornin @ around 5:00 am and decided to import the news media into bank 3 to listen to. So WHAM, 2 minutes late I'm hearing the king news chopper talkin about some accident in seattle that I don't have to drive in today. HE HE. This is just TOO COOL. Someday we might have to get together and compare these new 107's . It hasn't been too hard to understand how to use it. I'm still workin on learning how to do the trunked thing in my pro 97. I couldn't do it at all till I got all the help here on this forum the past couple of days. Well anyway, Enjoy that 107, I sure am.. Merry Christmas !!!!! Blake

Iscan is right on.....

DXscannerman you are right. This thing is flat out cool. I am traveling down south soon and I am able to load all of NC VIPER and SC Palmetto 800, TN HP and have room for so much more. Once I learned how to add my own stuff and edit my existing playlists it kinda fell into place. I like being able to add an object to more than one playlist. I have my lists set up by geographical area rather by service. If anyone get's a little frustrated, as I was with it at first, just practice with it and it will make sense. The only thing you really need to do is lose that stock antenna. It is good for UHF as that is what all LEO is here in VT. I also have an extendable metal antenna and an RS 800 antenna to swap as needed.

Does anyone know if a mobile version of this is coming out??

Morning Vermont, and Merry Christmas, You are so right. I am just having a ball with this thing. I love how small it is. I havn't tried to enter any of my own freqs. yet, but have just entered things from the cards data base. This is the coolest radio I have. I can just slide it in the pocket of any of my jackets if I go somewhere and don't even know its there. Enjoy yours cause I'm sure enjoying mine. Blake

a couple of observation's.

the sound quality & short/soft squelch tail are great.

there's a quick work around on loading an object that is not in your selected database. if your a premium subscriber to rr, you can do a entire u.s. freq. search for the fq. you're looking for. if you find one where the pl matches, find it in your object's,import it & change the alpha tag. a lot of time's you can find the exact same fq. & pl. sometime's you can't.

i was debating about returning it, but can't seem to put it down.

I hope Don is here, I can not get the software to copy the files from the SD card without hanging solid. I am on my third computer installing the software AGAIN! It no longer runs on the 1st two computers. Once it "hangs" while reading the card it will not reload. I get an error telling me it is already running even though I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Everything seems to work fine until I decide I want to add some frequencies that are not in the database. The only way to do that is mount the SD card in the computer using the iscan software and create a new entry. I have updated the software on the scanner without a problem, updated the version of isacn without a problem, updated the DB several times without a problem but every time I try to copy the contents of the SD card to the computer it freezes up solid and will no longer run on that machine no matter what I do. I have to kill the process in the task manager, it uses 99% on a single core and 50% (one thread) on a dual core processor. I have tried it with a seperate card reader, I have tried the card inserted directly in the computer. It is recognized without a problem either way. I can and have updated the DB on the SD in every case without issue. When I attempt to copy the contents of the SD to the HD it says it has completed and to press OK. I press OK and the iscan software freezes with no way to unfreeze. Forcing it to quit by rebooting or killing it in task manager renders the software inoperable on that machine. I even tried system restore on one machine to a restore point well before the install and the software will still not install and run again on a machine once it has crashed. It has just crashed and frozen on a third machine, one was XP, two were VISTA. Do I have corrupt software? A corrupt SD card? I hate to return this scanner but I can not get this software to work properly on any machine I own. Any ideas?

Hoping Don is here also, or another computer expert. Everything is working great with the new iSCAN but I have a question that I am hoping someone can answer for me about my system. I have a Dell laptop running vista home premium, 2Duo CPU, 2.2 GHz processor, 2 gigs ram . and my anti virus is Kaspersky 2010.
When I try and run the iSAN software I get the error message ( windows cant access the desired device or path. You may not have permission to access it. etc.) . But I learned that if I turn off my Kaspersly antivirus firewall then everything loads just fine, and works fine. Can anyone suggest where I could go in the Kaspersky controll panel, and what I would have to change to maybe allow the iSAN software to work while Kaspersky is still working. Thanks

I had Kaspersky for a few months and it was a real pain. It was way over protective, I got rid of it. I now use Mcafee and it works very well for my needs.
