Had the thing mounted in my truck for 6 months. Took it out to sell the truck. It sat in the garage for month or 2. Went to use the radio and it wouldn't turn on. I'm thinking this problem started before I removed it from the truck. But I don't know how or why. I took the outer case off thinking there might be a fuse inside but didn't see one. Took a look at the board and nothing looks out of place. All the solder looks good. So I'm thinking it might be the switch. But I don't know much about this sort of thing so...

What are you using for a power source? Do you have the polarity assigned correctly on the power leads? This would be where I would start my search for answers. Is the in line fuse solid? If none of these things yield an answer I would pack it up and send it to Uniden for repair.

With the scanner off, remove the SD card, and then turn the scanner back on. See if you get an "SD Card Error" on the screen then.

Ok. I pulled the sd card and got the error.
Since you get the error with the card out, the base issue may be the card itself, not the scanner.

If you have a card reader, format the card with the SDF card formatter.
If you don't have a card reader, will the scanner give you prompt to use Mass Storage Mode or Serial mode when you plug the pc cable into the scanner and your PC?
If so, choose mass storage mode
When in mas storage mode, see if you can format the card.
If you can, then after formatting, use the Clear User Data option under the Scanner drop-down menu in Sentinel,
(If you formatted the card via a card reader, then do the Clear User Data step above with the card still in the reader.)

After formatting and clearing user data, then write your Favorites lists and the main database to the scanner via Sentinel. That can be done either in Mass Storage Mode, or with the card in the card reader. If you are not seeing the card in Sentinel, try the Display all drives option.
Will the scanner start up now?

Also, you should probably get a spare card. a 32GB high endurance card is only about $10.

I have learned that corrupt SD cards can give off a multitude of weird symptoms. My R8600 had a quirky problem where the radio shut down and powered off if I implemented the Group Scan option. New card, problem fixed. Weird.

I appreciate the help. I never would have thought the SD card would keep the radio from turning in. Y’all saved me from a big headache.
Now that’s the first thing I’ll look at if I have problems moving forward.
