Ive got an MAX232 chip a RS232 plug and a AOR USB cable,,Now What?

Looking at making a serial cable for my MK3..ive got the parts,the cable with AOR connector,the MAX232 IC and the RS232 connector,,,

Question,,is it as straight forward as the diagram looks?

And,are C1 and C2 at legs 1-3 and 4-5
referring to 0.1 uf capacitors?

If you weren't already aware you can construct an usb interface cable as well.

I need the serial..my notebooks carry internal wifi,blutooth and cellular modems (wpan-wlan-wwan)
and i cannot get any access to USB com 4,which seems to be the only port i can use for the current(scanrem) cable ive got,so im going to cut it and convert it to RS232..give more options as far
as software.
