Why I got the PSR 500
1. local stuff that's digital, included DoD FEDS
2. I travel plenty of room to program stuff for traveling
3. Because I enjoy the hobby and want to keep current as technology changes.

I am terribly sorry I even bother with this message board any more.

you still didn't answer if you could pick up the bases. no one wants to argue how you spent your money. I wanted to know if you were able to pick up the only digital which is the milcom on the bases. which you still think people are just attacking you... (and dont provide any feedback what so ever)

I will save you the time of your reply and attack you.

I dont know why you bother with the boards either, as it seems that you have cult following on scanseattle and all the yahoo groups your a member of... or wait you just spout off crap there and act like your some geek radio god.. (seeing you post 28+ times a month and I see zero replies to 95% of them)
there ya go I at least gave you what you wanted this time. thanks for providing the community information and pouting.

so I say Happy New Year and good scanning this year. some day we might help eachother, some day we might not.

@emsnatchr -
no the talk groups on the trunk system are encrypted meaning that its against the law to decrypt them and listen to the content. digital or analog trunk systems can hold encrypted voice in them. lets say pugest sound used P25 those same talk groups would be encrypted, if we had OpenSky same thing. if it was old simplex same.

however be it P25,opensky(if you could) Moto, simplex etc ... if the voice is not encrypted you can hear it. (as long as you can decode the trunking system)

They encrypt them because its horrible when your swat team swarms a building that the bad guy can listen to the swat movements and plans. as "professional scanners" (had to make one more jab) this is a ok deal obviously we dont get to hear the cool swat teams but just hope that they allow us to have the operations channels in clear. (this is good for us in other words, they get to keep secure secure and we get to hear the ops)

A BC396T would be a good investment, not only for its digital APCO capabilities, but a whole host of other capabilities is also offers. It is sure to be all you would need in Washington for years and years and years to come.

you are correct, you can pick up some stuff from the mil-police on whidby every now and then. I also chatted with a guy who said he got some boarder activity every now and then.

but thats all I have ever heard of.

Well I was just putting some feedback on the guy's question and kellykeeton I cant tell if your reply to me was rude about my 2051, but I was just trying to be helpful without being jumped on. Im not mad or anything, just wanted to point that out. Happy new year everyone.

just pointing out that no one can really state that a P25 scanner is worth the money for the Puget sound region today, you said that it cant hurt to spend the extra ~300 on a P25 since they will be digital some day.

but if they dont use P25 or dont use P25 in a manner that a current day scanner can decode it. Then your SOL - so IMO the statement of "cant hurt" is only true if money is no object. (or unit is used out of PS Region)

this thread mostly has spun out - now its just spitting match for the most part, im not jumping on you just disagreeing :)

There are things to listen to in the Seattle Area that are digital and clear like FPS 417.2 From lots of the area you can hear some of the CREST system on Vic. Is. (like 142.95). I've even heard digital on WSP (155.97/155.46) during state visits. Currently there is just much to listen to, I rarely have my P25 bank on. My effort to not jump the shark.

Well I guess the bottom line here is we where all asking if Stavro35 is getting anything that is p25 on his new psr-500 and from reading the stuff that he has posted in the Meany other forums that he is a member of he is having a very hard time programing his new toy just to get it to scan conventional stuff., now I know that this is a great scanner so when you get the bugs worked out please let us know what you think about this scanner I think I will get one just to have one....any how let us know..............

It's a great scanner. I've heard communications in the clear on everything I'd hoped i would. All the time? No,not all the time. I've heard clear voice on several of the 380DoD systems . .Federal protective services. ATF Pierce/Tacoma Oh and the JIWN talkgroups have popped up .

I will likely be getting another one next year or sooner.

I keep telling myself I need one, It would be nice to see all of the great new scanners that they have now days in one store and to have a good sales person on hand that knows what they are talking about to, but that time is gone in Washington State, years ago and I believe in most States too.
