By Longwood Fire Company July 1, 2010 At 0357hrs the first due house fire assignment was dispatched for the house on fire in the 100blk of Center Mill Rd, Kennett Township. Units assisting on the first alarm were Station 24 and Hockessin Tanker 19.
Chief 25 (Ruoss) responded and was advised that the alarm company received an activation from the residence and a female on location reported a fire.

Assistant 25 (McCarthy) and Chief 24 (Melton) arrived simulatenously to find a large 2 story single family dwelling with the entire front of the house well involved. Assistant 25 established Center Mill Command and requested the working fire dispatch (E-36 and RIT 52) as well as the 1st alarm tanker task force.

Chief 25 was assigned as the Operation Group and Chief 24 assigned to the "A" division. A quick size up revealed a well advance fire on the entire front side second floor through the roof and beginning to drop into the first floor.

E-25-1 (Cressman) arrived and established a supply line from the two large ponds in front of the residence. E-25-1's crew advanced a 2.5" attack line to begin attacking the fire. Ladder 25 (Bisson) arrived and positioned for ladder pipe operations. Tanker 19 arrived and established a draft from the pond in the front yard to ensure a continuous water supply. E-24-2 arrived and their crew was assigned to the "C" division to access the second floor fire.

With the lack of additional assistance on the scene a second alarm was requested. E-52-1 and Air 52 arrived and established the RIT Group on the "D" side of the house. With units failing to respond the stand-by units enroute to their respective cover assignments were re-directed to the scene. E-27-5, E-51-2, E-22 and E-23-2 arrived and were assigned to the manpower pool to relieve the first due crews.

The fire was declared under control at 0506hrs. Units worked for approx 2 additional hours extinguishing hot spots, salvage and overhaul operations and clean up.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal's and State Police Fire Marshal.
