• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a supply of FPP licenses for the nx line.
+1 buy from Evans
Don't know. I don't use FPP on any of my NX-5000's. That sounds like an Evans sort of question. I suspect that since the FPP is technically only a "federal" feature set, that it will stick where you put it. In other words, the dude poking at the radio is expected to know the rules and do things correctly. If everyone was following FCC rules, FPP wouldn't be available as widely as it is.
I'll answer my own question, now that I am back at home.

That would explain the complaint of quiet audio.

The EFJ5100 HTs had FPP even on the limited keypad model. I have a 2 meter, 800 MHz, and 900 MHz and they all have FPP. Not sure if your needs include an HT, but mine have been very reliable, still work well, and batteries are available.

I'll keep the HT option in-mind, but I was primarily interested in a mobile solution, both for VHF & UHF. Since I've been away from radio in general for +21-years, and I moved to a different part of the state, I need to do a bit of research. My job has me pretty mobile, covering over 5 counties, so I'll have to see what systems are in-place, & go from there. There may be some 800/900 MHz Systems I'd be interested in monitoring, but I just don't have enough information at the moment , to make a decision in that area.

At this point, I'm keeping all options open.

Scanners are nice if you want to listen.
Then just get a separate VHF and UHF radio that meets your needs.

But I'm a guy that still runs a Motorola CDM-1550 in his personal truck. Someday I'll upgrade, but analog fits my needs right now.
Work, however, is a different story.
Yep, I just put my CDM-1550, VHF, in my Sierra 1500. 20 years old and still sounds great !!
