• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I interfaced an Argent Data Systems ADS-SR1 simplex repeater to a TK-x90 series (e.g. TK-690, TK-790, TK-890) radio and it required some mods, so I thought I'd list them here for future experimenters.

Modifications to the radio:
Move R641 to R640 (to get external MIC instead of data)
Jumper SB, a set of pads next to F501 (for +12v power to DB-25)

Modifications to the ADS-SR1:
Turn dip switches 1 and 2 ON; 3 and 4 OFF.
Lift/Remove R12
Short (jumper across) R11
Remove SJ1 (or lift/remove R9 if it is easier)
DTMF control setting ##1071 (2x gain on input audio)

Pins:
DB25 Pin 7 to RJ45 Pin 2 (ground).
DB25 Pin 13 to RJ45 Pin 3 (Mic In).
DB25 Pin 4 to RJ45 Pin 5 (PTT) Aux Input 3 MUST BE PROGRAMMED FOR EXTERNAL PTT!
DB25 Pin 17 to RJ45 Pin 6 (Radio Receive Audio Out).
DB25 Pin 14 to RJ45 Pin 8 (+12v). DON'T INSTALL BATTERIES IN REPEATER.

I found the biggest problem was getting high enough audio to the radio from the repeater. That's why I ended up doing what I did with R11 and R12 (thanks to an old post from the Argent owner on the Simplex Repeaters Yahoo group for that info).
I tried using TOR (tone operated relay) on one of the radio aux outputs instead of VOX, but never got it to work consistently. Not sure why. VOX is good enough for my application though so I didn't continue down trying to make it work.
