Kerrville/Kerr County on LCRA

So far the following talkgroups have been verified with Broadcastify Calls:

10018 - Kerrville Fire/EMS Response
10021 - Kerrville Fire/EMS Dispatch (patched to VHF with the usual MDC squawk)

If Kerrville PD or city public works are using it, someone would have to park on the Kerrville tower. The above talkgroups only appear for the period of time an ambulance is coming into a San Antonio hospital.

I have TG 10001 logged on the Boerne LCRA site. It is E, also looks like they are using Phase 2.

Most LE agencies if they are encrypted before getting or jumping on an existing trunked system usually stay Encrypted. So KPD will probably stay E. KCSO will probably need another tower to get better coverage out there.

We shall see, it seems Motorola won the bid for the county upgrade since they made the promise to meet Kerr County’s strict coverage requirements. LCRA proposed 6 additional tower sites for the 700 MHz side to cover all of Kerr, and that wasn’t enough to meet the county’s minimum criteria. The terrain there and in neighboring Bandera and Real are very difficult to fully cover. So many deep canyons and ridges but not all are even lightly populated.

Was in Kerrville today with the 436hp in search mode. TG 10004 sounds like Kerr County SO, also heard traffic on 10043 with vehicle/DL returns but never caught a unit number to determine what agency it may be. Based on radios ID's these are patches to the VHF system.

you wont here unit id numbers
instead listen for them saying PD to SO
or SO to PD Check (cause their checking for what like you said DL and LPs)

I witnessed the channel long ago while observing KerrPD dispatch operations.

Since its Dispatch to Dispatch Comm

i was able to hear a event with Kerr SO
and (KPD) Kerrville FIre.. for what happened this com was used to
replay patient information, (ex. was it a boy or a girl)

(Kerrville fire is dispatched by Kerrville PD)
(Kerrville PD main channels are Enc)

so this is just the city and County
channel to help keep themWorking with each other

They just switched to the LCRA system. I'm sure their contract with them has some hefty penalties for early termination. Especially this early. They can use Motorola radios on the system and have GATRRS programmed in for interop if they want.

Rest of the article is behind a paywall unfortunately. But, the county set aside money less than a year ago after Motorola and LCRA did their presentations. I have only seen the county on the LCRA sites so far.

For interop all they have to do is get permission from surrounding GATRRS users and get there system and channels programmed in and a couple of button hits later they're taking to Real, Edwards, etc... I know Gillespie County did this

It’s an odd county to pick a direction for sure:

LCRA: Kendall, Gillespie, city of Kerrville
GATRRS: Real, Edwards
VHF P25 Conventional: Bandera, Kimble

Realistically speaking, the borders with Real and Edwards are sparsely populated, so unless Moto and GATRRS are making this a sweetheart deal to connect the MRG and Western Counties together solidly via Kerr County, then LCRA probably would have been the more logical route.

With that said, I think GATRRS is going to be the dominant player in South and Central Texas going forward. They’ve been repositioning and upgrading sites as well as adding new ones to the area. LCRA is expanding as well, but VHF is just better suited to the hill country and mesquite country.

Sounds simple, The Sheriff in Kendall County installed VHF radios in the patrol cars for interop with surrounding counties that still used VHF, one county did not want to allow permission or give them the info to be programmed into those radios. If ego's and "mine, mine, mine" could be removed from the system admins imagine what could be accomplished...
