departments get away with it because ISO is so backlogged. A 9 will sometimes be
inspected over the telephone.

Sooner or later it will catch up to them though.

As long as it is put that way, ISO will not be an issue.

Insofar as being an hour away and enroute... on my
department, or any around us, if you are an hour away
we don't expect to see you. No one is so important so
as for us to need a response like that.

We use mutual aid if we need help.

oh dont get me wrong, we still use mutual aid but we try to release them as quick as possible, for example when it comes time to mop up we try to let companies go and do it ourselves but it always seems like about the time we finish filling bottles and cleaning up we get a MVA or even another structure. If im not around and i know they had a large call then ill head back as soon as possible to try and offer a little relief. Tryin to run over 400 calls a year with 25 guys can burn a fellow out pretty quick unless everybody works together.

I was fascinated by the stuff on the ISO website - I've known about ISO Classes since at least the first time I saw an LA City FD rig with "CLASS 1" on the doors ... thought I note they are no longer listed. :)

I note that if you are more than 5 road miles from the firehouse, you're Class 10 no matter what ... I'm in E Norman and am pretty sure that applies to my area.

Guess I need to talk to my councilman!
