To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We have 4 new KNG2 - P150 radios for our wildland fire team. We have 23 channels programed into a Zone. The channel selector goes to 16. As I have done some You Tube research I should be able to type in the channels beyond 16 on the key pad but it seems that I am unable to do that. If I type in 17 I am getting a tone and no ability to go further.
Any Idea how to enable the keypad function to get a channel beyond 16????

What does your programming look like for the areas I have circled in RED on the attached image? In my example, the programming of the SIDE BOTTOM button is optional and could be set for any of the other buttons on the radio.

In my radios typing directly on the keypad enters a zone number. Not sure if there is a way in the software to make that enter a channel number rather than a zone number.

Side Bottom above the PTT is back Lite Settings
Side Bottom round button is Bluetooth

That depends entirely on your programming. I have mine programmed so that the Side Bottom above the PTT is Site Select and Side Bottom round button is Program Scan List. There's no factory default for these settings. Your programmer decided.

willgoldsmith,

I just tried it again on my KNG2 and my KEYPAD SELECT (for both conventional and trunking in the RES software) is set for CHANNEL. Pressing any number on the keypad allows me to change channels.

Just from past experience, it is not very common for wildland radios to be programmed with zones that have more than 16 channels. That is not to say that you can't do it and I can verify it can be done and it works on my KNG2.

You can designate functions of the buttons in RES. I use the up and down arrows for channel selection beyond 17

Thanks everyone for your advise. It sounds like I need to sit down with the programmer and get into it a bit more.
