Why do you need a KVL to load a key into a radio? Why isn't it so that you could just enter a 16 digit hax key in the CPS and the radio would encrypt from there? The only thing I can think of is that hardware use and not software is more secure. There is a hell of a lot of electronics in a KVL. What in the world does it do?! Obliviously just enter a key into the radio. That's its only function.

Its only function? You shouldn't assume. Maybe FIPS 140 will enlighten.

It's used for AES-1056 encryption duh..

The Thales25 allows you to enter the key directly in the software. Moto allows that with ADP encryption as well.

You should try that 'just type it in on the keyboard' with your security manager sometime when he says you need a new one-time tape......
