Just wanted to make an FYI post regarding interest in this system... the view count as I write this is 3579... on 08 Oct (at 2150) it was 3429. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see there is a great deal of interest in being able to hear this system, especially when something happens that impacts people. Taking it further, these are the currently available grafix to assist in monitoring this system with the download count current as of 2341:

[ascending soapbox:]I understand full well what is going on, there are people who are staring down a line of very dark clouds, their probably flashing, severe WX Warnings flashing on the TV screen (if the power is on) or blaring from their WX radios and their is a fear that is difficult to describe unless you've been there. They want to know what is happening around them... Knowledge is safety, even as your home is being shredded around you, knowing that someone is out there and cares and is looking for you and waiting to help you when the debris stops falling from the sky is a big comfort; all too often in some parts of Kentucky a scanner tuned to the correct freqs is that knowledge, sometimes the only source. Without going into detail, I have been there and knowing what is (was) going on around me is (was) a big comfort... especially after an event that changed my life forever.

KYEM/NG Win 500 File

I have put together a WIN500 file that contains the frequencies needed to monitor KYEM/NG. It is set up in 2 different scan lists. The first scan list is just the main frequencies needed to monitor the Statewide Multicast system. The second scan list contains frequencies obtained during training exercises and various repeaters that are not part of the Statewide Multicast system. If anyone is interested in the file just send me an email. I know there has been some confusion on what is the easiest or best way to monitor KYEM/NG, this should make it easier for someone wanting to get started.

If you do not have Win500, you can download a trial version at
Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control
The trial version last for roughly a month and does not have anything disabled.

First Wednesday of the month.... radio check day! (Semper Fi!)
EDIT:
Yes, I know it is Tuesday, just placing a reminder about tomorrow morning so plans can be made before the fact.... Sorry for the confusion!

FWIW, Versailles FD seems to have converted over to the new system and someone that was supposed to give me a "heads up" didn't. The Woodford County FD hasn't changed their radios and most likely wont in the near future. Not a big loss actually since the county FD has better runs then the city! Details to follow, maybe.

Radio Checks

The NG Armories are doing their radio checks today, if anyone from the East or West has a chance to monitor, it would be a good time to get some Freqs/NAC's

Enc.

Tax payers $$$ went toward this multimillion dollar system and all of Area 11 traffic has been Encrypted today. Didn't know the checkins were so important that they had to be Encrypted.

Of course, without a properly equipped radio, one cannot be completely sure that the traffic was checkins...

Nope – not radio checks. It was other agencies using the system for law enforcement type ops. And yes, unfortunately for scanning enthusiasts, these type ops will always be utilizing encryption so the bad guys can’t here them coming.
You guys will here this stuff from time –to-time. Remember EM and NG are not the only users of the system.

Hearing some interesting traffic on "139.6625" out here in eastern Ky. (Pike County) with a great signal, must be a repeater.
