My understanding is that if it’s P25 then you will need to assign talkgroups as well. But I’m new with the digital stuff.

Nothing to celebrate for our tax dollars that bring absolutely no value to this RR.com site. 58 percent of everything worth wild is gone and the other 41 percent brings absolutely no value moving forward. Part of the 41 percent that people need to factor in that the daily activity for LACOFD is not even going to be running on this system. They are staying on UHF-2 Analog moving forward for good. So re do the math and maybe say 75 to 80 percent gone. The other 25 percent are interops or other non related talkgroups that most likely will never be used on a daily basis or at all. Plus also factor in that LASO is still on UHF-2 Analog for now. When they move over to LA-RICS for good they will be gone too. So lets now say 90 percent gone to The most state of the art ATT FIRST NET Phase II TDMA system ever built.

NYC who has not even finished rolling out the Gen 1 APX's, and a long way still from full P25... Already ready to put them on E-Bay and jump to uber APX's... Doesn't matter what coast they be on, Demogeniuses and your money flushing down the toilet... LOL But back on topic, Yes, RICS is going to be very busy, but yes, you won't be hearing most of it due to the powers that be.
Chicago, LA, NY... Three of the biggest cities in the US, and lookie lookie, UHF users primarily. Yes, Chicago and LA both now have 700/800 P25 TRS's in operation, but the police will be on UHF for a while still. LACoFD will be on UHF for many more years. NYPD will be UHF until God says to change, then they will fight Him over it. Many, many cities in CA are on UHF, and will be for at least 2 to 5 more years. The real reason Motorola has eliminated pure UHF radios from the future of APX series is that many of those in UHF are transitioning to 700/800 TRS, and the ones that are not need to have integrated systems to make interoperability a lot easier than constantly having to have dispatch centers doing patches etc. If you have the new radios, you can load up various zones with the other systems no matter what band they run, and if you need to talk to them on the fly, you switch zones. As for the integrated LTE/LMR it not only is great for when you slip into "dead zones" of your LMR system, but again. if your needed in an interoperational sense such as disaster aid, you can still be in full contact with your home agency literally anywhere there is FirstNET or the like availability. Also say part of your LMR system has catastrophic failure, your radios go to LTE and your still in communication.
Not true. The LTE modem is provisioned by MSI, they bill the customer for connected services. There is no "phone" capability, it is an IOT device and MSI has taken great pains to remove all ability to side load apps and lock down the device. It connects to Radio Central and all applications are pushed down from RC. If it is not a MSI sanctioned application, it won't run on the NEXT. (I'd love to have our non-MSI CAd mobile app, OneSolution Freedom on our NEXTs but MSI will never provision something they don't sell or support).
