Hello everyone!! Out of all the websites I have searched over the last couple of weeks this seems like a good site to ask this question.

Okay, Not sure if I will get any answers. My dad lives in that area (Lac Courte Orielle/Hayward Wisconsin Area), and has requested a simple to use scanner (if there is such a thing) for Christmas.

I am educated on scanners and I am not sure on what to buy and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live in Ohio and the sales rep from Radio Shack is useless since they don't know that area. Background info, He says he would like to listen to police/fire/weather for his area... hmm... Nothing fancy.. maybe 10 channels.. hahhaa... I cannot find anything like that... I keep running across 250-2000 channels... ahhhhhh

I have 4 siblings pitching in for this particular item so I would say cost could be around 200-400.

Thank you ahead of time for any posts or suggestions.

T Jones - As I remember things in Sawyer County, everything is VHF hi-band and analog...

Does he want a base unit OR portable?

You can go through the Scanner-Master listings located below for a couple fairly basic units that he would enjoy, I'm sure, and since these are priced economically, perhaps one base and one portable might work out for your budget - he would certainly be surprised:

http://www.scannermaster.com/BC370CRS_Scanner_p/10-501057.htm

But please click on the main category for ALL bases/mobiles and portables to see if there are any alternatives for your Dad's needs and your budget.
