Back in the day I used to use a lapel speaker with my scanners -you know the kind that look like a lapel mic but are speaker only. Anyone try to use one with their SDS150? Is the headphone jack on the SDS150 a stereo or mono?

Looking to buy one, but unsure if I need a mono or stereo 3.5mm plug and is it worth getting one. I have a hearing issue and need the speaker closer to my ear instead of holding the entire scanner to my ear for a long duration.

I use this with my 150

The 150 does have a stereo 3.5mm socket. I use the adapter with the speaker

The smartphone app U/Aware works really well with the 150

I've connected my Bluetooth headphones to my phone, and I can listen to my scanner wirelessly.

I think there are ear buds and hearing aids that can connect using Bluetooth as well.

I’m able to listen on my hearing aids because they pair with the iPhone. The Philips 9050 hearing aids can pair with smartphones. So, when I want to listen that way I use the U/Aware app with the SDS150 and the audio is then available to the hearing aids.

I have 4-BCD436HP scanners. Because the earphone jack does not put enough volume out of that jack, even with the volume turned all the way up, you need something amplified to use that jack with a lapel speaker. My first 3 436 scanners I added my own speaker jack wired to the inside speaker to use my lapel speaker to use at full volume. On my 4th 436 I decided to try the SpectrumForce amplified lapel speaker from Scanner Master even though it was expensive at $100. I'm not disappointed; it works great, has plenty of volume, the battery lasts a long time ( I keep the volume on the lapel speaker low and the scanner volume up to save on the rechargeable lapel speaker battery) and it even has a small flashlight in the lapel speaker grille. It's built like a brick with a heavy duty cable and a speaker jack to attach another speaker or earplug. I think it was well worth the money.
