On August 5, 2009, at approximately 8:00 P.M. Loveland Police and Fire Dispatch received a report of a boating accident at Carter Lake. Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, Loveland Fire Department, Berthoud Fire Department, and Thompson Valley Ambulance responded. It was reported that a forty-seven-year-old female from Fort Lupton was being towed behind a boat on a flotation device when she fell off and was struck by a following boat. She was brought to shore by those in the boats and CPR was begun.
Lydia Cervantes, 080362, was transported with serious injuries to Medical Center of the Rockies by Thompson Valley Ambulance where she remains hospitalized at the time of this press release.
Investigators from Larimer County Sheriff's Office and Larimer County Department of Natural Resources are investigating the accident. These agencies are investigating whether alcohol, unsafe boating practices or any other factors may have contributed to this accident.
The tow boat was a nineteen- foot Celebrity driven by Raul Cervantes, 032459, of Fort Lupton. The second boat was a Mariah driven by Rene Cervantes, 072954, of Longmont.
