Has anyone used LMR-240 for their base antenna? If so, what were your impressions and which connectors did you use on it? Thanks! :)

I have used it up to 50 feet, on scanner antennas, works great. I use PL-259, BNC, N. connectors on it. They all work well. I watch Ebay and the like and get it on sale. So far, so good. I do check and make sure its Times Microwave not the knock off stuff.

I found this but, it does not seem right too cheap. After relocating my antenna, between 20 and 25 feet of comercial RG6 Quad shield coax may be fine any way. 100' Feet Coaxial Cable Low Loss LMR240 RG8X Type Solid Center Conductor Browning BR240 - Walmart.com
That is not Times Microwave. It is a cheap knockoff.

And which is it? LMR240 or RG8X?

From my limited knowledge about coax, only Times Microwave makes LMR. Anything else is ‘equivalent’ and inferior.

I have purchased Times Microwave coax from wifi_expert on eBay. They will make custom cables

Here is an example

I figured that was the case I'll look on ebay. Like T was saying, after I move the antenna I may be fine with the coax I've got. I've got 50 ft run now and I'll be cutting that in half or more.

As @Fixitt said, it's not the real thing. The link has three red flags that tip off the byer that it's not genuine Times LMR:
  • "Los Loss LMR240 RG8X Type" : Means it's not either, but it's about the same size
  • "Browning BR240": Browning is (now) a Chinese manufacturer of poor quality knock offs of known brands
  • "Walmart": Need I say more?

Times LMR240UF is the way to go for < 500 Megs. LMR240 is actually pretty stiff and can be annoying to lay out at first. The UF is nearly the same spec and is much easier to play with overall. It's great stuff with just about any connector. Like others have said, it's best to avoid the imitation brands. For 500 Megs and above, I'd recommend LMR400UF.

If you need a longer run (> 100 ft) then I'd just go with LMR400.

About everything in my area is between 150 and 160mhz. That's why I think I'll use the short 20-25 foot run of rg6 quad untill spring and it warms back up. Then, I'll get some of the LMR 240UF. Thanks folks! :)

Rg6 Quad will work just fine at that run. Just make sure you get good stuff, not home depot stuff I use perfect vision solid copper quad from solid signal for all my scanning stuff. I terminate it if F fittings then use short jumper cables with the correct radio end.
