I have been reading about the Astro P25 system they are changing to. Now I am wondering if analog transmissions might be not encrypted?
Unless everyone is going digital, then they will be encrypted. Just looking at the theory at least. Thoughts anyone?

It’s a P25 Phase 2 system. No analog. Encryption of OPP and EMS is expected.

Also hearing Simcoe-Norfolk EMS using the new APX's. Also looks like Burlington detachment is using the new APX's also. Seeing RID's in the 556xx range.

I'm seeing this also and am doing the RID changes. Of my scanners, the HP does a much better job of recording than my 436 or 536.

I'm gone (knock on wood) from 730-1830. I'm gonna have to just put my scanners on record and play back some of the day.

Are BMR techs doing voice tests on FleetNet?

That's a good question Eric,

I've mainly been logging the new LMRN system. I will monitor FleetNet to see if there any testing going on there.

Thanks

Same goes for Lambton County. Saw a Paramedic with a new APX radio on his belt with the super ugly holster and tall antenna that I'm sure will be the #1 issue with them. Portables going from the stubby UHF Tait's to the almost double size APX. Plus side of it, one battery will do you per shift unlike the 22 you need for the Tait radios ;)

Unless the portables are dual band which I do not think they are. They could easily go to a 2 inch 7/800 1/4 antenna.

Is this what you saw, maybe a different color?

Holsters are these ugly things. Radios are dual band APX7000, I do believe. You'll be able to see these things from 3km away they are so big. EMS trucks now have the black antennas on the tops of the trucks, just like the OPP cars changed out the chrome whips to the black for the new system. If you see the black antennas you know it has the new VR's. Even the OPP detective cars that had the single VHF antenna on the trunk now have the data pucks, 700MHz on the roof and the VHF on the trunk (of the Chargers)

The EMS supervisor I was talking to recently was carrying an APX6000. I honestly didn't pay any attention to the antenna size.

Couple photos of how OPP has their radios. Looks to be super annoying when sitting down and the antenna jabbing your jaw almost. Nice tall antennas.

Some info I found on the radio.

OPP are using APX6000 for the portables. I have not been able to confirm what EMS is using yet.

Just had a medic buddy mention they have dual control head setups in the trucks now. One control head up front and another in the back so the medic back there can do their own talkgroup changes for the tac channels. Said biggest complaint is the antennas on the portables. Too tall and jabbing them in the arms and arm pits. Maybe BMR will have to swap these out for the shorter ones if enough users complain

Why do the portables have tall antennas for 700 MHz band? Is there VHF programmed in the radio also? Dual band?

I'm in Mississauga and have been scanning the new 700 MHz frequencies but heard nothing yet. Is the switchover from the old VR's to the new ones immediate or phased in over time?
