RRI is reaching the top of my S-meter's scale tonight on 7375 kHz at 3:11 UTC. The program is in English. This is the strongest I've ever picked them up here -- lots of rapid fading, but strong enough to keep them intelligible. My receiver, as usual, is a Sangean ATS-909X portable, and I'm using 23 ft. of wire indoors. I can also pick them up on just the whip, but not quite as strong.UTC 2:00, local 9:00 PM (south texas) at 6080 Radio Romania International in Spanish, great signal tonight (Aug 07, 2019). Using a Tecsun PL-880 with inside wire.
I snagged North Korea on 13.760 mHz today on my IC-7600. I came across the English language broadcast at 18:45 UTC. It was S9 at my location (80 miles north of the North Dakota/ Minnesota border).
I checked the frequency on the Short-Wave Info site at Short-Wave Radio Frequency Schedule for BBC in ENGLISH Their database showed that China Radio International was currently broadcasting on that frequency. But, I listened until they signed off at 19:00 UTC. The announcer identified the station as The Voice of Korea broadcasting from Pyongyang.
I was expecting to hear some sort of news and propaganda, but for the time I listened, they just played what sounded like modern oriental symphony music.
After the English sign off at 19:00 UTC, they continued the broadcast on the same frequency in Spanish.
Radio Feda made the trip pretty good here in San Francisco the other day.I heard Radio Feda, Madagascar, at 19:50 (12:50 PM local) on 11965 kHz, beaming to the Middle East. There was lots of rapid fading, but their signal strength was about S-7 on peaks. They went off the air at 19:57 and came back on as African Pathways Radio at 20:00 targeting Central Africa in English, but with a much weaker signal. Also at 20:00, their Arabic service to the Middle East could be heard on 13710, but it was very weak.
My usual setup: Sangean ATS-909X, with just the whip antenna. Connecting the external long wire didn't help much, as it mainly raised the noise level.
They transmit from Greenville, North Carolina. Isn't that also one of the VOA's transmitting sites? It's a greater distance from me here in Western Canada at over 2300 miles, but they always come in strong here on various frequencies during the daytime and in the early evening. I've often mistaken them for RHC.Radio Marti 6030 kHz 3:05 UTC. Strong signal, but only around 500 miles from me.
