Suppose anything is possible, but I heard the ELA traffic continually for a good 10-mins until I switched away.

I note there appears to be new LA-RICS site.

Site 07(T0107) is shown as a new adjacent site with control frequency on 478.850.

I am not receiving anything on 478.850 from my location though at the moment the site data stream list it as "failed" so its likely not on the air.

Something to plug into and monitor in coming days....

Site 07 is on the air

T0107
478.075
478.675a
478.700a
478.825a
478.850c

NAC697

No traffic noted yet.

Signal is quite weak in West LA/Mid City, so maybe folks in different part of town can try to see how reception is and help confirm additional frequencies being used.

I was able to get a little bit more altitude to pull in Site 7 better.

Noted following active frequencies on the site
478.07500
478.22500
478.25000
478.37500
478.40000
478.52500
478.55000
478.67500a
478.70000a
478.82500a
478.85000c

Heard activity on TG 83 & 84 which appear to be Rose Parade related.

As such it appears site 07 is the SOW - SIte On Wheels which was to be deployed at Altadena LASD station for the event.

Is phase 2, tdma audio lousy on Oat and Rolling Hills, or do I have an equipment issue I need to resolve? Verdugo actually seems to be fine...

Rolling Hills is solid for me, while others are so so. I really think its has to do with signal quality and how scanners decode them.

I really need more experience with tdma. Though I haven't spent a lot of time listening to SCE's new system, I've listened under a variety of conditions - good and bad - and haven't heard anything like the distorted signals I've been hearing on RICS... For what it's worth, fdma is crystal clear on both RIC sites - which may just reflect the fact that fdma is a bit more robust... 8*)

I wonder if we're listening to the same Rolling Hills site? I'll pay a little more attention tomorrow and see if what I'm hearing is on 470 or 700...

More as it develops... thanks 8*)

What talk groups are you hearing the distorted audio? Must be the dispatch patches which are analog to digital and only thing in the clear.

The patches aren't the only clear traffic on the system, but they do make up the bulk of what's available in tdma, so yes - that's primarily what I'm using as a reference. The same patch TG's that are crystal clear on Verdugo have always been grossly distorted on Oat and - I suspect - one of the Rolling Hills sites.

I'm pretty convinced, now, that this is a system issue and they'll be spending some more time on the mountain tops when they get around to it - the folks who are making real use of the system are all in fdma, so I don't think it's a priority...

Is that phase 1 or phase 2? 470 or 700 MHz?

I can confirm the distorted tdma that I'm hearing on Rolling Hills is on the 470 side...

Keep in mind that Phase 1 or Phase 2 is determined by the type of radio that's affiliated to the talkgroup at the site you are listening to. If someone is in say, Long Beach, monitoring with an APX radio, and no other users are monitoring, the traffic will be broadcast out by the site in Phase 2. If there is a user with an APX (phase 2) and another user with an XTS5000 (phase 1) listening to the same talkgroup, the system will broadcast the traffic in Phase 1 to allow the older phase 1 radio to communicate. This function is part of the P25 standard. A talkgroup can be configured in the system to be either phase 1 or phase 2 only, but all the talkgroups in LARICS right now are configured to do either one as needed. When LARICS is built out, Phase 1 radios will be allowed on UHF, but 700 will be phase 2 only.

I can confirm the distorted tdma that I'm hearing on Rolling Hills is on the 470 side...

...and I can now confirm that tdma sounds fabulous on the 770 MHz side of Rolling Hills 8*)

So maybe this is a configuration issue on the 470 side...
