I recently moved to Louisville and I am having issues with picking up MetroSafe. I hoped someone could help me out.

I am using a Uniden BC996T near the Stony Brook area with various antennas.

I utilized the auto programming via BuTel and Radioreference.com for MetroSafe. For some reason I cannot get it to trunk. I have checked everything I can think of with no success. The scanner trunks Warren County's (non-digital) 800 system just fine.

I have noticed that if I scroll to 854.4875 (one of the trunked channels) and hold there I see various ID's scrolling which are active but I near nothing. What am I not thinking of? I am going crazy. Thanks for the help.

Not really familiar with the BC996T , but looking through the manual,
try checking the steps outlined on page 52 for optimizing P-25 performance.

I believe I'm hearing Shively PD on TG 56. Anybody got any info on that? Also still wondering about St. Matthews PD...

Don,t normally monitor the police groups, but put TG56 on for several hours
That does appear to be Shively PD , judging by all the street references
will continue for a little more to verify, and send it to the database if it checks out.

TG 56 appears to be Shively , (still checking.)

TG 57 was active to-nite, and it appears to be encrypted .

nothing on TG 58 yet..

57 has been active but it's encrypted.

58 and 59 ("#2") are both new within the last month or so.

Two questions.

1) Has anyone used a Home Patrol on Metrosafe with good results?

2) How do you scan for other talk groups on a 996XT?

In reference to question 1, I have heard of zero people around here with a Home Patrol.

In reference to question 2, (this may not be the exact sequence/wording, but should get you in the ballpark) go to menu --> settings --> click on ID SCAN to select between that and ID Search. A better alternative to beating your head trying to figure out who is on which talkgroup is to download the pdf located at http://www.louisvilleky.gov/NR/rdon...HE_METROSAFE_800MHz_ASTRO_25_RADIO_SYSTEM.pdf

Every talkgroup that is not encrypted is listed with it's talkgroup ID.

396XT and 996XT users/owners take note:

The newest firmware updates for these scanners change the MetroSafe P-25 audio from so-so to the Superman of scanners! I have updated 3 of them over the last 2 days (testing for negative side effects!), and look to do another 20-30 tomorrow. The 3 that I did have impressed me like no other. I found that the sweet spot for the "P-25 Adjust Mode" in southern Okolona is 15, "P-25 Adjust Level" should be at 50 to allow it to be automatic. Adjust the Mode to around 11, check the error rate (396 it's [function], press down on knob, [function], press down on knob. 996 it's [function], press in on volume knob), and adjust the Mode if needed. I was able to see error numbers as low as 3 (much better than the 50+ before the firmware update) earlier today, as well as much more consistency stopping on an active talkgroup.

If you need any help doing it, contact me. You probably won't need to though, the website has incredible instructions, taking any guess-work out of the mix.
