Does anyone have any input/experience on the Uniden Home Patrol? I'm interested in getting one for my family and I'm about as far away from being tech-savvy as anyone I know. I live about 1-1/2 miles (as the crow flies) from the Mitchell Hill tower, so I should be able to pick up traffic. Thanks in advance.

I like it. I like the more advanced things that you can do with the unit as you learn more. It's great for travel. Make up several favorites lists. You can update the scanner and firmware anytime. Just after you download a new database, dont forget to send it to the scanner. Made that mistake before. As close as you are to that site, i wouldn't think you would have any problem with picking up more than one site. Hope it works out for you.

Ok so they post audio of scanner doing simulcast tonight. Not to be a stickler but a 996xt will do this depending on your proximity to the transmitters. Uniden is advertising this new scanner as the best thing since sliced bread and i really hope it is.

So it's better than sliced bread! I just drove 64 from Indiana to 65 north across the bridge then 65 south to Bullitt County. I did not receive the first garbled transmission on a BCD536HP. I have the scanner sitting in the passenger seat, using stock antenna and the factory firmware (have not done the FW update yet). I am very impressed.

I believe he got his from Ham Station and went there to get it and was listening on the way home. I hope we got a good thing in our future! Got mine coming Tuesday, hopefully.

Congratulations! Make sure and post how it works out for you. I'm probably gonna have to do some trading and pony up some money. Man, this is gonna be nice for so many people. I don't remember if the 996xt was $600 when it first came out. Seems like it was...

Yes the Ham Station and Chief you are correct. I also drove around Bullitt this evening and also thru Okolona and up to the airport. I have not had the first garbled transmission. Still using stock antenna about halfway 'opened' or up as I have not ordered a vehicle antenna yet.

I highly recommend the Ham Station. They have 536's available and as close as we are you should get it the next isomers day. I wouldn't be surprised to have my 436 on my doorstep Tuesday. I will test that out too when I receive it.

If you have a camera, could you make a video of it receiving? I'd like to see how the reception compares to my XTS3000.

Yes, I tried yesterday on the way back but having the scanner sitting on the passenger seat made it sound really muffled on the video. I will try to do one tomorrow and post it.
