I finally found the problem. I had reorganized my favorites and in doing so I had the FL Number Tag the same on 2 of my favorites. I can understand where there'd be a conflict but what I can't understand is why the 2 fire dispatch channels worked.

I love the scanner but the software and especially the manual leave a lot to be desired.

Thanks for the reply,

Paul

Hopefully by now you've got your scanner going and are a happy camper with it. About the only reason I can think of was that in the Service Types, only "Fire Dispatch" was enabled. The other applicable ones, "Fire-Talk" and "Fire-Tac" may have been turned off.

Yes Ofd8001 everything's up and scanning. The new Bearcat's do have a big learning curve and somewhat frustrating at times but it's well worth it. I've been all over the Metro, Shelby and Oldham Counties and everything works great.

Ordered my 436HP the other day. Waiting for the 2nd week of march for it. Does anyone have any other sound clips from there's that they can upload so I can hear how well it performs?

Just received my BCD436HP in the mail today and LOVE it. It works awesome on the MetroSafe system with hardly any distortion.

I'm not having any issues with the MetroSafe system with my BCD536HP. When I first got mine, I had minor and infrequent garbling with the stock antenna. The Waverly Hills site is 1.5 miles from my home and the Mitchell Hill site is 5.5 miles.

My shack is in my basement and I've since switched to a yagi that I have mounted on a 4 foot section of fiberglass mast propped against the wall pointed almost directly to Waverly. It is broadside to Mitchell Hill. I rarely have any issues now with MetroSafe.

This is what I'm using:
Amazon.com: Wilson Electronics Single Band - 800 MHz Yagi Antenna Model Y8009EL with N Female Connector: Cell Phones & Accessories

In previous posts, this has been suggested, but I don't have any experience with it:
Amazon.com : Antra AT-YG08 HDTV Antenna for UHF VHF indoor outdoor antenna high gain super clear signal : Video Antennas : Electronics

Can you be a little more specific on what you mean by "poor performance"?

Im not getting any audio on it at all from metro safe. Very rarely a word or two. Its like the receiver is not sensitive enough. Set my pro-106 next to it and the 106 pick many indiana things up that the 535 misses....then it will roll right on through louisville emergency communications.

I pick up the Metrosafe system fine in my house in Louisville on my 436HP. I can sometimes get some indiana stuff like the Safe-T system and New Albany's system.

Try shutting every thing off but the MetroSafe system and see if you are getting any signal strength indication. Also, I'm presuming you've got all the service types enabled or at least the Fire and Law Enforcement ones. If you are, how many bars are showing?

Then after checking that, are you receiving any of the Indiana trunked systems (Safe T and the New Albany Phase 2 system)?

I've heard metro safe tone out lfd to a medical c "charlie". Or a medical d "delta". I assume it is telling the truck how bad the run is so they know to run code or not but i dont know. Anyone else know anything about this???

MetroSafe uses an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) program. Based on inputs from the call-taker (asking patient questions), this dispatch software will establish a "level", or "determinant" of the medical call.

These are Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo. Echo level is the most dire (such as a full cardiac arrest), then Delta, Charlie, Bravo and Alpha. (There's also an Omega level though that may not be a medical emergency).

Thus in the simplest terms these levels it can be likened to the relative seriousness of the medical call.

While the following comes from Maine, it gives a fairly good discussion on this topic. The EMD system is a national standard.

Most of the time when the fire service responds to a medical call, it is a "Code 3" response, regardless of the level.

Occasionally you'll hear a medical call dispatched as "Code 1". Typically in that case, the EMS crew is already on the scene and has called for the fire service for assistance in lifting a patient.

While the EMD program has been used for a long while in Louisville, they have recently began including the applicable level in fire dispatches.
