Got my 536 today and listened for a few minutes on MetroSafe. The sound is much better. So far, I'm impressed.

One thing I did notice is that it seems to take the 536 a little longer to acquire the voice channels as compared to the 396XT. It may well be due to the differences in how I've programmed the Favorites Lists and things. More tinkering coming up.

How is the clarity? Still garbling? Can you pick up whole conversations? You mention the 396xt. On a whole, is it better on metrosafe than the 396xt?

There is the occasional garble, but no where close to what it was with my other Uniden scanners. 99% of the transmissions can be easily understood.

A follow-up. I did a brief bit of mobile monitoring this evening, comparing the 536 to the 996XT I have installed in my vehicle. Suffice it to say there is a marked improvement. There were many occasions where I was receiving traffic on the 536 but the 996XT was either too garbled to comprehend or the 996XT didn't have any audio.

I am very pleased with the 536 on how it handles the MetroSafe system. If there was a money tree in the back yard, I'd be getting a second one for my vehicle and a 436 for portability.

I'm trying to upload a sound file as a sample

I've never done this, so I don't know if it will work. It is a short clip of a transmission recorded earlier this evening. It seems to have worked.

I just received the Uniden BCD436HP. I enter my zip code and after a minute or two a bunch of channel loaded. So far, so good with the Metro PD and Fire channels. This thing seems to be different in the way other scanners have worked, so now it's time learn how to use this blessed thing.

These are my first two Unidens. I have had Realistic and Radio Shack for over 20 years. The learning curve is a little sharp but I am starting to settle in. Once you start getting used to it, its pretty easy.

Been doing a little more with the sound recording. I created clip of a transmission that occurred on 1-30-14.

There are two segments. The first is the recording from a 536 scanner. The second segment (of the same series of transmissions) is from the Broadcastify archive.

The Broadcastify feed comes from Okolona Fire Station One using a MetroSafe portable radio connected to a computer which then goes to Broadcastify.

Thus the first segment is what is heard on the 536 scanner and the second segment is what a "real MetroSafe Radio" hears.

I've got fairly discerning ears when it comes to audio quality and I can't detect much difference.

Unfortunately I could not attach the clip to this message as the file was too large. If anyone wants me to e-mail them a copy, please send me a PM with an e-mail address and I'll send.

Ok I have 10 Favorites programed in my bcd436. I've assigned a FL Quick Key and FL Number Tag. But I'm only able to access 1,2,3,4 and 8. One of my Favorites that isn't accessible is ISP. I've I set a FL Quick Key and Number Tag to 5. I've compared the settings with the Favorites that are accessible and the Favorites that aren't accessible but I can't find any differences. I've read through the manual but it's totally useless.

Anyone have any idea what happening and what I need to do to use all my Favorites?

Thanks,

Paul

Is anyone having problems receiving Metro & County Fire talk channels? I have the bcd436 and the only problem I'm having is with fire talk channels. I've receiving the Metro & County dispatch channels but not the talk channels.

I have the fire channels setup as a favorite and I've checked and all the fire channels are there. I've even deleted the fire favorite and recreated the fire favorite but have the same problems.

I updated the full database and tried scanning the fire channels through the full database but again I’m only receiving the dispatch channels and not the talk channels.

Anyone having problems or have an idea what's going on?

Thanks,

Paul

I finally found the problem. I had reorganized my favorites and in doing so I had the FL Number Tag the same on 2 of my favorites. I can understand where there'd be a conflict but what I can't understand is why the 2 fire dispatch channels worked.

I love the scanner but the software and especially the manual leave a lot to be desired.

Thanks for the reply,

Paul
