Shelby county going digital

I have had several first responders in Shelby county tell me that public safety there is going digital. Seen as how a Metrosafe tower was installed in Shelby county fairly recently, I was wondering if they may be migrating to the system. Anybody have any info on this?

I've been "out of the MetroSafe loop" for about 20 months and a lot could be happening that I've not heard via the grapevine.

The Jeptha Knob site was added to extend the range of MetroSafe, should responders go outside the primary MetroSafe footprint. (They also have sites in Bullitt and Oldham County for this purpose).

These remote sites are capable of four simultaneous conversations. So they might be a little limited for a county's regular use.

I'd think expanding the MetroSafe system into Shelby County (and others) might be a good thing to do. However a few more sites may be needed to ensure a good coverage footprint along with additional voice channels.

I had the same thing happen to me. I ended up changing the Site Attenuator from On to Off and set the P25 Threshold Level from 8 to 6. It helped it some.

I noticed several other posts saying how the upgrade helped their P25 systems, but not for me.

A little more "trial and error" has been done over the past couple of days. I guess I've tried every possible combination of settings.

Here's what works for me out in Okolona:

Site Attenuator: ON
P25 Threshold Mode: MANUAL
P25 Threshold Level: 7

I think I might be getting some pretty decent audio now. Every now and then I'll have some garbled transmissions. I'm thinking that if the transmitting person is talking quietly, that creates the garble.

When the scanner stops on a MetroSafe System channel, press the "System" button. That causes the scanner to hold on the system. To stop holding, press the system button again.

Have you created a Favorites List which includes the MetroSafe System? You can only adjust the settings for a system when they are part of a Favorites List.

Shelby County is planning to go digital but it will be conventional VHF P25.

I also heard about this migration from a fairly reliable source. They are still analog at present however.

FWIW, I believe the Shelby County MetroSafe tower is on Jeptha Knob, which may be the same tower with the other Shelby County transmitters.

Somewhat off topic, but are the old 154 mhtz channels completely silent? I haven't checked in years and don't even have them programmed in my 996. The last I heard they were patched for listening only.

There's a few still active. 460.100 is a division of metro police. 152.0075 is tone out for the suburban fire depts. metro pd has another on vhf but it eludes me at the moment.

LMEMS Med 1 channel is bridged to old channel, JCFD Dispatch is still used for paging, division 1&2 7&8 155.5800 and 460.1000 and last but not least JCFD Mutual aid 154.2950 used for outside agency support and Medical Direction patch with Metrosafe

Thanks guys. I dug out an old Uniden desktop scanner I had lost the antenna to. Luckily it uses a Motorola plug (AM/FM car radio) so I used an old antenna and mast from a 1986 Mustang GT to get it up and running. I still had all the channels saved from when I was on OFD in 2001-2002, lol.

Hello,
I live right in town in Louisville and am having trouble monitoring LMPD and LFD on the Metrosafe system on my Radio Shack PRO 106. It is showing a strong signal, however, the audio cuts in and out and scrambles. Any tips?
Also, is KSP active in Jefferson County?

I have the pro 100 and have the same problem monitoring the Metrosafe system. I have no problem monitoring Indiana State PD District 45 - Sellersburg and maybe District 42 - Versailles, New Albany, Jeffersonville or Clarksville.

Depending on what part of Louisville you live in you should be able to monitor KSP Post 4 - E-towm, Post 12 - Frankfort and Post 5 - Campbellsburg.

I purchased a Uniden BCD436HP scanner. With this scanner I don't have any problems monitoring Metrosafe.
