Well there's this map. It shows where all the towers are located. It's been available out there for a long time now.

Map of OPP NOR System

Hello my name is Kaarlo. I just looked at that map, because we here in Chapleau Still use the NOR System. This map is handy, because it shows all the towers. I was just wondering if that is the only map there is of the towers for the NOR System. Because I dunno if it's just me or if everyone has this same problem. I find that, the map is hard to read using the Acrobat Reader, which the link that is posted here, opens up to, even when you zoom in just to get a closer look. The writing on that map is, what I find, is hard to read. So if anyone can tell me if there is another site or if there is a way for someone to make the words clearer to read. Then I can read that map easier. PS: I am not trying to be mean or complaining about it. Just curious to why it's like that, that's all. Let me know. Thanks.

Map of NOR Regions For OPP

Hello again. I am just wondering if there is any other maps out there, exactly the same as this map, but readable. Or if who ever made this map, can maybe, somehow make it a little clearer and better to read. This map is good, because it gives you the Channel Number beside or somewhere right next to each place to tell you, which ones they use at and around those places. I would use this map, if it was easier to read, than the way it is now. Thanks.

Why not get off your butt and get a real map of Northern Ontario and transfer the data to it. They are all Northern Towns and it is more than clear enough to dechypher, yes it might require that you do a little work, can't have everything handed to you.

Oh, sorry captain genious, i didnt realize that REAL maps of Northern Ontario that u can buy at the corner store had legends on them for OPP towers and what type of tower each is, and what frequency each tower is programmed with, how stupid of me to not realize i could just go buy one at Canadian Tire....Moron...

Putting aside the previous poster's bluntness and your sarcasm/name calling, he has
a point. You are asking for the info, you're the one not satisfied with what's
available, so my next question would be "why don't you work on it" ?

For the remainder of time the NOR system will be in use, I can't see the
need for exact site locations, unless someone wants to go to the trouble.

There have been times I've asked for something, then went on to let
somebody else do it....nobody's perfect. General problem with the scanning
hobby is everybody's asking, and very few people are "doing".

I dont really care about the exact location of the sites, i never said that, all i wanted to know is what tower each of the channels on the NOR system list belonged to and a general location of each, i am sorry if i dont do it myself, but i really dont have the time to drive aroudn Northern ontario using my close-call function to figure out what channel each OPP tower is transmitting, i didnt realize that people would get so confused about what i wanted to know.

P.S. I have only been scanning for a under a year and dont have the knowledge to magically figure everything out on my own...i have learned alot but i cant learn information that i myself cannot compile on my own

BTW Rhutch, if u are implying that i am too lazy to do things on my own then i wouldnt have been offering everyone a copy of my previous work http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33176

If you want to make a map for your own purposes it wouldn't be
hard. Use a regular Ontario road map, mark the known frequencies/
channels on small stickers or clear tape, or use a clear plastic overlay.
Some location-specific data is available from old Haruteq books which
are still around (but out of print); or just ask about specific locations
on the various boards (don't expect a flood of info though). There's
a website based around Elliot Lake (can't find its URL) with some info
for that area, and there may be others.

In my opinion, if you're visiting a location, you could find the channels
faster just scanning the range 141-144, than relying on CloseCall or
whatever. Use a scanner that can lock out annoying pagers etc. when
searching.

OPP :

Fleetnet stops in PARRY SOUND.

Sudbury and Espanola do have Control Channels kicking out ...noise but thats all.
A close source , says ' lack of further funding ' prevents the Fleetnet from going any further north than Parry Sound. ( Even Parry Sound will use Nors alot ).

Best map is a mental map...if your north ( west ) of Parry Sound ...your in NORS Country , plain n simple.

A decent search mode of 140 - 144 will haill all towers in your area.
MOH is and will never be Fleetnet , up north...many reasons Im told.

I'm pretty sure the database has the information you are looking for.

Check under the OPP listing of conventional channels.

I believe I had submitted the input frequencies for the old NOR sytem Repeaters to the database a while back, but again, it hasn't been put into the database. Don't know why, because those frequencies are still needed to listen to the NOR system effectively.

Regardless if it's eventually going to Fleetnet, for the time being I think they should be incuded as well.

Remember, there are people here, not living in a Fleetnet zone.

Already check the database, it jsut lists the frequencys and the whole 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B......i just wanted to know what areas/towns/zones/whatever u want to call it that these numbers refer too.....i get 6A, 6B alot in thunder bay so i will assume that these pertain to the Thunder bay area, but i would also like to know where the other numbers pertain too..
