May be a long shot by asking but has anyone ever heard of any forestry traffic on any of the forestry TG’s. I know they have radios (Mobile and portables) I saw that in person yesterday but I never hear anything. I was thinking I would today as it’s day 2 on this mountain fire but nothing. Perhaps cell phones are used instead.

Yes, there are pretty active on FiRST during incident responses and prescribed burns. They use Forestry Ops channels listed in the database. Also, they have the capability to talk on all the local fire talkgroups. During responses on the Eastern Shore, I often hear them come up on the various FiRST county fire tacs.

There are a few talkgroups that are rarely used in the central part of the state but I haven't narrowed them down yet.

Yes.
DNR has used them before.

They have dual band radios, thus may be using Forestry VHF channels in some cases.
Negative, they have 2 different radios and both are single band. They have an APX 6000 7/800Mhz and they have a BK VHF Radio. They were most likely operating on the local jurisdictions radio system.

Would they ever operate on the BK VHF in-state? I'm assuming that they have them for the national inter-agency fire stuff for when they are deployed elsewhere.

14223 - Active throughout the day with at least 5 RIDs conducting forestry fire ops on the AA Site. One user used call sign of Forestry 3xx.

Might be Forestry Southern Ops 1?

Going through Anne Arundel P25 recordings, it appears that it was related to a large fire in the Lake Shore area overnight.

They may, however most VHF Forestry stuff is being decommissioned, mostly it is for out of State deployment!

Ok I am running unitrunker on this. I am in Silver Spring ,, the area of Aspen Hill and it is showing up under Peers but no label and no calls being shown at all. I am getting an RSSI-85 with Windows -3 but jumping around and the RSSI is jumping from -80 to -89. My squelch is set at -60. I am getting a good reading on the Scope also.

I was in DC yesterday and checked the Montgomery and PG cells which is where I noticed the DC ASR site as a peer in Unitrunker. I was unable to receive it directly from either Gaithersburg or New Carrollton. Unfortunately I was unable to venture downtown to see if it was actually on the air yet - sometimes you will see a network reference to a site without the site actually transmitting RF.

The labels are user-created. Site identifiers and channel numbers are sent over the control channel.

I’ve been seeing Law Tac 5 (Central/NCR) lighting up all day long on multiple sites. I know it’s encrypted but was curious if anyone knew what was going on ? A drill ?
