Has anyone else been hearing MSP C barrack and SHA D3 Talkgroups in the central MD area? Maybe I haven't been paying the most attention but last night I stared hearing those TG's on the Harford simulcast. I don't recall hearing them over this way before.

Someone was most likely tuned that talkgroup in your area monitoring the floods in Western Maryland.

I didn't think that MSP talkgroup could used wide area.

I didn't think so either. I am a tech in the central area. I did just affiliate to that TG. But I got rejected on Centerville but that's another one my 996 will catch at home.

MSP C was active on Balt and AA Cells likely due to the major flooding. A lot of statewide assets were headed that way. Normally this talkgroup is not available to be used on the AA/BC sites. Likely FiRST Techs, MSP Radio Shop, or MDEM allowed it to be used for the event.

I do know that I was picking up the patch between MCFD swift water rescue on Tac10 and patch tac 5 Allegheny County. I also heard them on MD M-Call as well when they requested the Tac Channel and then released it .

MD Tac 1 over on the eastern shore is being used right now sounds like a fire. I am able to pick it up off the PG Site 5-2 on the MD 1st system right now. Also encrypted sounds like MD Law is being used but of course its encrypted also.

MSP Radio Shop Ops increased the coverage of the C Talkgroup while responders where responding to the floods. The increased coverage has been reduced back to normal coverage within the respected region.

For the last few evenings/nights I’ve been hearing issues from the dispatcher and officers on the Hagerstown MSP talkgroup about not being able to get out. Officers needing to go to their mobile or even cell phone. One officer said over this radio “these radios will get one of us killed”

If it were a single or random occurrence, then it's most likely a position / location issue or simply user error and/or unreasonable expectations. If it occurred over multiple contiguous days, then it sounds like an equipment issue, infrastructure, or possibly atmospheric conditions. If one had to trudge back to a vehicle to use their mobile, then it sounds like they forgot to activate their in-car repeater (perhaps they don't have one). Western MD has challenging terrain, so I'm not surprised that there would be complaints even when conditions are optimal. Perhaps they can eventually deploy LTE enabled subscribers when they refresh their portables. I know that where I live in a heavily wooded area, my cell phone uses WiFi for calling when I'm indoors. To expect already degraded cellular RF to overcome building attenuation would be unreasonable. To build a wide area system that works all the time wherever a user might be would be incredibly expensive.

Anyone want to take a stab at who these three patched tgs are referring to: 15198, 13744 and 21471? NRP Area 3 from the Worcester / Somerset site is the Super group. The patch is still active apparently. Perhaps it is some kind of system resource?Screenshot 2025-06-07 191730.png

MDTAP BWI Airport for a few hours for unknown reasons this morning utilized MD Tac-5 for all operations and not the BWI System. Interestingly they didn't utilize their MDTAP BWI talkgroup on FIRST.
