They like "Doomsday plane", It killed me on the news one day when I heard a military person refer to it's predecessor as "knee-cap", which drew a shocked response from the reporter, like it was a threatening name, vs a short way of saying "National Airborne Emergency Command Post".

Head more North? Various Mils use all kinds of West Coast starting points to Hawaii.
Travis East of San Fran has no problems to Hawaii and the French tankers for some reason.
prefer Vancouver BC fuel to go to Hawaii and back.
The Aussies usually transit thru San Diego/LA sector to and from Hawaii. Odd though tankers didn't stop at Travis.
Maybe just not enough room for this mission.
