US: Another ‘Unprofessional‘ Intercept of RC-135 by Chinese Fighter. Watch the Video
The Pentagon said a Chinese fighter jet performed an unprofessional intercept of an Air Force RC-135, the second incident in recent months.www.airandspaceforces.com
Both my Nikon D3500 and Z 7 have no problem with the matte grey planes, but I’ve noticed the F-22’s semi-reflective panels causes some shading and issues at certain angles to the sun.I have similar experiences with F22's & F35's at Langley. Have noticed that I can NEVER get a well-focused pic of an F22 or F35 in flight. Using a Canon SX720HS where even 'Manual' focus is only a starting point, and the camera still makes small adjustments to whatever target is in the square. Could the visual stealth characteristics be foiling the camera's algorithms?

I think that's what 'Manual Focus' actually is on the SX720. There's no viewfinder or focus ring. You preset focus with a rocker switch, and the camera will fine-tune focus with a button-push on whatever's in the target frame. I find that I need to preset for max distance, because the plane will initially too small a target for autofocus to engage. Not an ideal situation, but the compact size of the camera is the main reason that I get most of the shots that I do.I got screwed over at an air show recently, lots of photos came out blurry. You should be shooting in AF-C (continuous autofocus), center point preferably, and you can do back button autofocus so the camera only focuses when you tell it to. Of course make sure the shutter is set to something fast for fighter jets.
Thanks! I love watching the NGU heliport, although the QRM is generally too bad to hear much on the scanner. (They sound WAY better at Langley AFB) A couple of questions:Here’s some presets from Norfolk to get you started. The helicopter sector freqs may be of use.

East/West common are for VFR traffic in the area. Uncontrolled advisory frequencies. Thanks! I love watching the NGU heliport, although the QRM is generally too bad to hear much on the scanner. (They sound WAY better at Langley AFB) A couple of questions:
1 - WASH RACK -- really a radio freq to make an appointment to wash the helo? Definitely gotta put THAT one in next time.
2 - East Common & West Common - Any idea on the nature of those? Local thing, Navy thing, Nationwide thing? First time I've ever heard of them, but those two now go onto my priority list as well.
Can't be sure due to all the QRM from base ELMR, but it sounds like some of the squadron base freqs might be encrypted. Sounds like constant noise--much like what the VA ANG F-16's would test before launching at RIC back in the day

Back when I was working, SIERRA frequency was only used by the staff on trips outside the DC area. The portable radios were issued to them by WHCA once they arrived in whatever city to start the advance work. The lead USSS advance agent would also be issued a special SS portable that had SIERRA (plus the usual B-C-M-T-O-P) on it so that the agent would be able to communicate with the lead staff person during the advance.Henry, do you hear Sierra 166.5125 around DC much? On various trips from past two admins to the RDU area that freq is silent until the plane lands and then gets busy until motorcade departs. Supposed to be WH Staff and/or WHCA
