The Air Force is looking at extending its growing F-117A Nighthawk stealth combat jet operations to 2034. A spokesperson for the service confirmed to The War Zone that at least some number of F-117A jets will remain operational in order to support limited research and training activities, but that there is currently no requirement to preserve any of these aircraft in any state for potential combat use. The spokesperson also indicated that the Air Force intends to eventually get rid of the entire F-117A fleet one way or another, either by their donation to museums or via scrappage, but that no details on a specific timeline for those divestments are currently available. With the jets officially retired in April 2008, stretching their operational life to 2034 would keep F-117As flying some 26 years post-retirement
