P-8 out of Jacksonville just appeared in the same area as the Coast Guard heli, flying a low circle a bit farther off the coast.
HEX AE681A no callsign, FL 1000 currently.

Edit: KMYR just referred to it in traffic brief as "some jet"

Crazing that this happened to be honest. US military assets engaging and shooting down an 'airship' from an enemy land over US sovereign land.

We were at a college tour in Columbia and spotted the balloon as we were touring the campus of USC. It was in the clear blue sky due north at approx 30deg elevation just before noon.

We saw the news and I was monitoring this forum on the drive back home, what a resource we have here! Sadly, I was without RX capability.

At home I many times leave my SDR on VOX record on 260.9 MHz - just to see what pops up, assuming that anything of 'real' interest will happen here. Usually it's routine intercept training or CAP activity. But today - From just north of Charlotte with my attic-mounted SDR setup I caught the large majority of the intercept including the Splash call.

Sorry a lot of the audio really is pretty bad but... for all I have received from this group, I give to you now...

Assume Myrtle Beach like most beaches in Mid Atlantic is fairly shallow say 10 miles offshore?
I think around here they average 45-100 feet deep with Continental shelf a hundred plus miles away.
That P-8A must be scanning the bottom :)

Pentagon said debris in (@Mark guessed it) 45 ft of water, shot down by Langley F-22s

TFR over Syracuse (pres) & aircraft diverting to Albany to "wait it out". 2:12pm Sat - Haven't heard any CAP in place from here - 260.9 "was active" earlier but has been quiet of late. Although "afternoon" training sorties have resumed for the weekend qualifiers on 226.3 (coordintion) 226.8 & 314.4 tactical fighter training. All F-35 VT ANG training freqs used in the past.

Had comms from OH F16s on 312.175 a/a and a few center freqs as Noble 21. They were probably in the airspace.

Earlier today during all the balloon commotion, saw this guy flying over central NJ. GULCH19 E-6B Mercury Reg: 163918
As mentioned earlier, he was headed back to PAX.
Nice pic! Yeah 918 is long time resident of Pax River.. Been hearing it for years in and out of Pax though
does travel occasionally to Tinker.
On tape today 1525 local heard them calling their base ops on 310.150 "Maintenance-918" a couple times.
They don't chat much :)

I concede to the quality of your shot in the Saturday E-6B Photo Shootout. Still, I remain overjoyed I was finally able to spot one and fire off some shots. It's the thrill of the chase :) And having that C-17 right over my head earlier in the afternoon kinda makes up for the distance of my Mercury!
