One of the C-17s came in low over the house about 8amL ET. Our house is the turn point on their low-level terrain practice route as they wrap around the mountain the house sits on. Ordinarily, this will happen at least once a week, but they haven't been here for at least a month. I'm assuming they've been busy with Israel and Ukraine runs.
Great... now I've got "She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes" popping into my head.

Thanks a lot
Joel

@1520L Colts, MD A10s rtb Kiowa range; oops! calls ZNY on Harr AD 281.525; Harr tells um wrong freq.
Heard RAVEN 1 flight of 4 also headed up that way later this aftenoon.. A/A 293.300
and with Bollen range 233.450 says will "start run with the Mavericks".

Couple C-17's departed Elmendorf for Iceland it seems.
RCH-613 #05-5141 452 AMW just landed Keflavik parking at hot cargo ramp.
RCH-420 #00-0185 3wg AK departing Elmendorf now on same polar route.

The Italian Demo Tricolor team base hopping their way back to Italy with stop in the Netherlands today.
Hopefully won't wait another 30 years for US/Canada shows.

0410 local - ROMA61,62 departed KPSM to bring the VT F35s (TREND11) to Europe.
Caught this on recordings today.

0818z 303.000 ROMA 61 & 62 A-A on their climbout from Pease.
0818z 346.400 TREND 11 flight of four check in with ZBW block 240-270 4mi non-standard front to back.
0820z 263.050 TREND 11 (x4) check in with ZBW.
0822z 307.000 TREND 11 (x4) check in with ZBW.
0823z 307.000 ROMA 61 flight check in with ZBW in the climb to block 250-270.
0823-0835z 307.000 ROMA 61 and TREND 11 working out their meet up with speed changes for an AR1 ETA of 0841z. ROMA tells ZBW he is MARSA with TREND flight. They continue to coordinate and talk on ZBW freq for minutes before switching over to boom freq. I found this quite odd they would coordinate for that long on the ZBW freq, but then again, it 430AM and there probably wasn't much traffic tying up the controller at that hour.
0827z 293.700 TREND flight on SCORPION OPs freq. Reception was not great but I think they were using it as A-A as non of their other common A-A freqs were being used.
0835z 396.200 ROMA 61, 62 and TREND 11 (x4) check in on boom freq for the meet up for their first AR.
0843z 294.500 ROMA 61 flight check in with Moncton Center.

That's all I had. Had the SDR running to snag any different freqs possibly used, but only got hits on the above freqs reported.

Yeah, that's what they do. At about 300 feet AGL. We are at 1,620 feet at the end of a mountain and they are just slightly above window level in our living room when they make the turn. It happens so fast that I can't pull the iPhone out of my pocket to get a photo to post here. They do a 360 around our end of the mountain and head back toward the rest of their mission. Only sometimes they turn slightly early and go over the top of the house, hopefully continuing to miss my 60-foot tower. Only real concern has been when new neighbors build houses up here and don't know what the hell is happening. One couple actually were out walking and hit the deck when they came over. The folks on one side of the mountain must look down to watch them.

My wife and I often go up to MRB with a receiver to watch them shooting T&G. Sound of freedom, etc.

Looks like another KC-10 is headed to the boneyard today (86-0031). That will leave only one left (79-1948). Within the last month, this aircraft brought a squadron of Raptors to the Middle East and brought 6x OK ANG Vipers back from Europe. A real workhorse right up until it's retirement.
