There was someone who used to post to Scaniowa and others. His website had some graphics one of which showed GEPs around the countries. Talking twenty years ago now. I might of have the graphic somewhere. Found it, it is dated from 2000.View attachment 67544

Anyone happen to catch all the Aerial refueling going on today? 238.900MHz. Was very active. Heard Bobcat callsign. Pretty good listening.

Probably TOPCAT callsigns. Those are the RC-135s out of Offutt in Omaha on training flights. Pretty common to hear them weekdays doing practice refueling.

Yep—-pretty sure your right. I had a recording , though bad one, and it sounded like BOBCAT but TOPCAT makes way more sense. I didn’t really think F-22 were training here, it would have be cool though. Thanks for the info

I forgot to add, the 238.9 frequency is the primary one for AR105 refueling route. It runs east-west from north central NE to north central IA.

That makes sense, I heard them talking about getting turned around at Lincoln, and making some more passes. Lincoln, NE. I assumed. Just happened to be off work that day (usually don't get to listen much on weekdays), and had my BC125 on. I have had that freq. in my banks since I bought it in 2012----never heard anything on it until then. It was well worth it, got to listen to several interesting conversations. I only use handhelds with Diamond RC77's on them. I have 311.30, 321.00, 233.400 ,238.900, 320.900, 269.00, 252.900, 321.00, 311.00, 323.800 , 370.100, 338.7500, 228.900, 338.9500, 271.900, 230.900, 300.400, 321.8000, 337.300, 319.800, 366.600, 364.200, 243.00, and 121.500 (just in case). These are in my MIL-AIR bank, are there any other's around central Iowa? Pretty much only hear 311.00 and 321.00 rarely.

If at all possible, try to get an antenna mounted outside. You will be able to hear stuff 100-200 miles out. Many of the aircraft radios only run around 10w, so it's difficult to pick them up from inside the house unless they are very close by. I posted a list of active UHF ATC frequencies a page or two back.

This is a snapshot map of the refueling routes nearby and their associated frequencies. P is primary, S is secondary. 406 has low and high routes, so both freqs can be in use.

AR105 P238.9 S320.9
AR406 396.2 297.3
AR16 P343.5 S319.7
AR318 P240.35 S260.2

Sounds like there might be some training going on in the Waterloo area this week. Some Nebraska Army Guard helicopters were heading over there today using 30.1 FM and 255.8 AM for air-air.

Anyone catch comms. on 319.400 and 333.3000 today?? I could not quite get a good copy. Fairly active though, on 333.300 one pilot was telling another to go "left, LEFT, LEFT" (sounded a bit concerned). Another partial I heard was "clear from-------", and "heading------" among other pieces. Just curious if anyone caught more. From my location in central Iowa, I have never heard anyone on those freq. Just happen to be in the yard with a Uniden 396T using a Diamond RCH77. Mike

There were a bunch of T-6 training aircraft up from Oklahoma to Minneapolis and Omaha this weekend. T-38s went to Illinois I think so could have been either of those. They were using 246.7, 246.8, 246.9 and others for air to air as well. 319.4 is an Air Mobility Command (transport aircraft) common frequency, so probably some ex-cargo pilots using it in the T-6/T-38s.

That makes sense, I got the feeling that in one of the conversations the one pilot was explaining how to do something. One of the pilots seemed to be pretty much in charge for sure.

Its funny the old 396T had a preprogrammed system just called Nationwide (Mil-Air, Common Federal , etc.) , I looked through all the actual freq. in it (dated names , but still valid) and added some more and then locked out everything but the Mil-Air, seems to work very well, I was actually surprised it was catching more than the Bc125 with the same antennas. Thanks for such a quick reply also!

THUMPER (Backend callsign for E-3 AWACS, SCOUT70 ATC callsign) calling COFFIN (probably coffin corner) on 311.3. Presume activity in the Crypt MOA (NW Iowa). The South Dakota F-16s may be coming down to play as well.
239.125 AWACS calling out contacts. The LOBOs (SD ANG F-16s) have been heard here before, so would guess it's them.
