Three UH-60s into Patterson this evening:

ARMY 26425 (3x UH-60L, 92-26425/91-26381/xx-xxxxx) are all probably from Fort Campbell. Does anyone have air-to-air frequencies that might be worth listening for?

Airtac on 141.825...maybe ATOMIC?

Just got a quick hit on 143.550. Seems like a flight of four flying two-versus-two.

141.700 also active. Has to be the Springfield boys...those are their airtacs.

Sounds like they're about done at 1410 local. One of them just called joker, another called bingo plus two.

It is ATOMIC 01 (x4) and NUKE 51 (x2). All back with Dayton approach at 1415.

Did you catch any other frequencies active at that time? I only monitored the three airtacs...never picked up Blue Ash, but my antenna is pointing at Dayton.

283.800, 141.825, 141.600, 141.700, 143.550 were also active

That pieces together pretty well...seems like it was probably two GCIs with three pairs of aircraft (141.825 sounded like instructors - either NUKES or ATOMIC 3/4). I don't have an explanation for 141.600; that's a common 180th FW frequency, but I have logged the 178th using it once or twice in the past.

The COMET was more than likely ATOMIC. I had the 996xt parked on BLUE ASH. I had the 996T scanning the UHF ATC freqs but did not have any 138-144 freqs going at the time. Any idea if there might have been an AWACs around the area since this sounded like an ACM execise?

No AWACS today, but on that note I did hear SHUCK 82 (E-3, unid) call Patterson Metro yesterday for weather at KTIK - just passing through the area, though.

Blue Ash [ANGS] is actually a small radar facility just north of KISZ. When it's active, controllers there manage airspace for the Buckeye/Brush Creek MOAs (and Charlie ATCAAs), and the GCI is provided by them. The two main channels are 240.350 and 283.800, though others are sometimes used (301.600 and 303.000, off the top of my head). Most AWACS exercises, though rare take place on these frequencies or 316.125 (ZID), and the callsign of the E-3 is almost always SENTRY for the front end and DARKSTAR for the back end.

The VHF freqs are all Springfield commons, with the exception of 141.550. I don't recognize any of the UHF.

0200Z hearing CHAIN active in Buckeye MOA on 240.350 and 141.700.

You all have better luck receiving these guys due to your proximity to the southern Indiana/Ohio ranges. I can hear them occasionally if they are doing ACM exercises above 15k. I am stuck with the ARs down here in BG and the over-flights. Ft Campbell's ranges open up once in a while to fighters practicing either bombing or CAS missions. Myself and Joe, down in Nashville, will follow the occasional visit to the range by B52s. A good chunk of the time though it is dead air.

Yep, the DOD has something against the southern KY/middle TN area. This is about the only area without a good MOA. Oh yeah, i still have yet to hear an "in service" F-22 cut thru Memphis Ctr airspace right over the top. I know those aircraft avoid my listening airspace like the plague. Boredom down here.

Had to go to Ohio via I-71, saw a couple of "jets" flying over Trimble County heading North... might be a regular occurrence, heard a little traffic, but was driving and really could not check the scanner.

Did anyone log that on RB, by chance? It was sometime around 2100 local.

Jared:
I got him. Times are zulu. He was not full mode s so he did not show up on the scope. He was around me though as Joe, down in Nashville said he was 60 or so north of Nashville. That is around my backyard.

Yup he was with Flight Service (122.55) which was a little after he was with Patterson Metro (344.6) but non the less from what FSS told him it was going to be a rough ride for RUFF 07. BTW, he is based at Tinker and is VQ-7 to fill in Jared's blanks.

3/11: COBRA 82 (WC-135C, 62-3582) - called Patterson Metro for weather at KOFF; FL360

COBRA had the same forecast this afternoon...nothing looked good at all enroute.

Hey Jared,

Is 299.6 and Indy frequency? I've heard it before passed from ATC but i've got it in a scanner i can't alpha tag anything. Heard SABRE 11 "flight" on it this evening. They were also a/a on 139.0

I'd like to know where it's at. Thanks.

I don't know the sector name, but its the Rushville Low RCAG: 125.125/299.600. I think it's used to deconflict traffic layers over Indianapolis - a low intermediate frequency or something like that.

The SABERS were headed to the Red Hills MOA. Usual freq flow:

256.700 > 317.625 > 317.525 > 350.225 > 257.950
or
256.700 > 317.525 > 299.600 > 350.225 > 257.950
