I recently purchased a Uniden Bearcat BCD325P2 right before the holidays. It was preprogrammed with my county. Then, randomly it lost its programming with an error message of “nothing to scan.” In my research trying to find & fix the issue I apparently did more damage because now the message is:
Tone-Out Search
Tone-Out 2
Ch 2
A: 0.0Hz
B: 0.0Hz
How much damage have I done & how complicated is this to fix?
I don’t have a utd laptop. I’m not even sure if I can download the software needed to reprogram it. Not to mention, at 60 years of age I am definitely not electronically inclined which is why I paid extra to have it programmed for me. If anyone can help undo my mess I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you all in advance. Catherine

Read the Manual above it should help you alot.
If you have a PC ONLY and a Premium Membership you can learn to do this yourself and not have to pay others.

In a follow up look in the easy to read manual for.
1. Tone Out turning on and off.
2. Also read up on Close Call turning on and off.
3. Look at turning on and off Banks (That is where you will get NOTHING TO SCAN).
4. Find a friend with a PC load PROSCAN on it you get a 30 day free trial use the cable that came with the 325 read the scanner make notes what is in each bank so you know what you are turning on and off.

Welcome to the forums! If you don't have the DMR or NXDN upgrade for your scanner, you can use FreeSCAN programming software which is FREE! See if you are able to download it. Freescan download website If you are able to download the software, you will need to install the driver for the scanner. I will provide you with the info how to do that. If you are able to download the software and install the driver, I can help with the programming. Once you have the software and a programming file, you can just program the scanner again if you have a problem you are unable to solve.

I think it's still programmed, but has the quick key turned off for the system.

Nothing to scan comes on when you have all quick keys turned off. You can still turn the control to manually get to systems and you would still be able to see if still programmed.

I would just hit scan to turn off fire tone out. If this was the only system in the scanner would hope it's on quick key 1. After getting out of fire tone mode try to hit the number 1 key and see what happens.

We all await you response.

I can try to download Freescan on my PC. It’s really slow & doesn’t help that my wifi is crap here. If memory serves me correct my PC is a HP2000 model. Thank you so much for your help. As I said, my old butt is not electronically inclined at all & on a fixed income I can’t afford to pay to get it programmed again. Again, thank you for your help & I will send you another message after I get Freescan downloaded. You can add me to messenger if communicating would be easier. The name is Catherine Lucas Haney.

How do I do that? I read your response which sounds simple but still sounded like Japanese to me. 🤦‍♀️ I just turned it on & this is what I see which is probably something else I did last night while trying to fix the other issue. At this point I am afraid to touch anything else without help. Thank you so very much. Catherine

Pressing SCAN should exit the menu and get it back to Nothing to Scan. If not, scanner is in Key Safe Mode. If that is the case, turn the scanner off. While pressing the FUNC button, turn the scanner on to exit Key Safe Mode. Pressing SCAN will then exit the menu.

Many of the places (but not all) that sell scanner would probably be willing to help a customer with getting the radio back in order. You are almost certainly only a couple button presses away from being back in operation.
Once you get it squared away, I would suggest one of the programs for programming the scanner to back up what info you have paid for. You would then be able to dump the correct settings and info back into the radio.

UPDATE: I have downloaded FreeSCAN & run the app. With the scanner plugged in & running a scan it shows 0’s all the way across the board in Systems, Groups, Channels, & Errors. I’m assuming by this that somehow I have accidentally deleted the programming. I also checked all of the COM’s in case that made a difference. My question now is, how do I install it back? Where do I go & what do I install? I live in NC Sampson County. That is the county I am wanting to download back in it. Thanks again. Catherine

tvengr if you look at the link to her post she has no PC.
I do have a PC. It's just an older model. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to download FreeSCAN but I was able to do so. I ran a scan and it showed 0"s across the board. See my responses to others and update posts for more info. However, the very latest update is I am back to the "nothing to scan" screen. I am learning FreeSCAN & I think I have it figured out. However, where & how do I find my county to download into the scanner? Thank you in advance for your help. Catherine

First things first;
You don’t need to be computer savy or even own one. Instead, ask someone you know if he would allow the programming software to reside on his/her computer. It could be a neighbor, friend or family, anyone actually. Once the program is installed you can save your profile. It’s simply a copy, your backup that you can go back to if you foul up the copy you have on the scanner. There’s a lot more you can do with the programming software but once you get your currently messed up program/profile corrected, back it up. The software can be further examined AFTER you have protected your profile. PROSCAN and Butel’s ARC PRO are two programs available for the BCD325P2. You only need one. Uniden does not provide any programming software for the *P2 series.

Let's check if you have programming in the scanner. Press MENU. Program System should be showing. If not, scroll to it. Press E. You will see if any systems are in the scanner. You can scroll through the systems. If it just says New System, the scanner has been erased. Press SCAN to exit the menu. Have you installed the driver? Connect your scanner and computer with the programming cable. In FreeSCAN, go to the Scanner tab and click on Download Programming and Queue System List to read the scanner. What message do you get when you try to do that? If you get a message about Unable to Access COM Port, close the popup boxes. Go back to the Scanner tab and click on Control Scanner. Click on COM Port Setup and Start Auto. If it cannot find the port, you need to install the driver. If your scanner is detected, close the popup boxes and go back to the scanner tab. Click on Download Programming and Queue System List again. Click on Check All and Start Download. Any systems in the scanner will be transferred into FreeSCAN. When download is completed, click on Close. Go to the File tab and click on Save As. Name the file and save it. You will need to zip the saved file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files in your next post and open the zipped file. We will be able to look at it to check for errors.
