Whatever the case, I have enough handheld scanners already (4 of them) so that's why I have no interest in a SDS100. Put it in a mobile mount model however, and I'm interested. I have a Whistler 1095 at home that I'd love to replace.

If they could just finish fixing the bugs on the portable first before they bother with a mobile.....

This is absolutely a valid approach. Why propagate issues into a second unit? I would expect that IF a mobile version is in the works, we wouldn't hear hide nor hair of it until late 2019 at the earliest. Mike

I am perfectly happy with Uniden and have no intention of changing. I've had scanners since the early crystal days and now own only Unidens: 396 (which I use very little), HP1, HP2 Extreme, 436 and SDS100. They have always performed as they should.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yes, I am pretty happy with Uniden. I have tried several times with these TRX-2 scanners from Whistler and they just do not stand up as a top performer. They do well in their own league though. I do say they have the best P25 digital modulation but that's about it.

Bought the SDS100 a few days ago and got the one with already having the bigger battery with no issues. Just waiting for the Base Model hopefully coming soon.

Whistler better step up their game next year or they will be out of business. But hopeful to see what they are working on with their newer line of radios coming down the pipe. You can never have enough fingers in the pie

The last thing Uniden fans need is for Whistler to go out of business. A lack of competition would certainly have a deleterious effect on the quality of Uniden products since they're pretty much the only manufacturers/developers of consumer-grade scanners.

Oh I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. No monopolies needed in this game. Striving to keep up with the competition is what motivates any industry. And a pleased consumer is always the ultimate goal.

I know I speak for the majority here when I say I have invested thousands of dollars into this hobby and will continue to do so, and spending this kind of money you expect and demand quality product. Our hobby is unique and probably one of the most misunderstood because not many are into the technology of amateur radio and scanning and shortwave and all of the byproducts that we indulge in. We all know that we keep up with the technology or we are left in the dust. Simple as that. And, the technical race is on between the scanner manufacturers, and always has been. We benefit from this, and they benefit from that....who would've thunk it 25 years ago that we'd be updating firmware changes into our scanners on a computer ?? what's it going to be like in another 25 years?

I'm just thankful for companies like Uniden and Whistler and Icom, etc. that put these radios out on the market for us to enjoy. Without them we'd be using two tin cans and a string ;)

Not sure at this point that I see a future of scanner radios and where the next 25 years it will be at. Most likely all communications will go thru high speed wireless nodes over radio over IP computer based which we will not have access to. Most of what we like to listen is going away as we speak so now sure how the industry can survive. Just being honest.

Uniden's implementation of both DMR and NXDN is superior to Whistlers. What why we have to pay for the Uniden version of those formats, but people get the Whistler version for "free".

I don't plan to buy a SDS100, but I might be interested in a mobile version, if one is in fact released.

I would rather pay Uniden to follow the control channel.

I bought my SDS-100 a month ago on Amazon and I am just returning it. Its just not worth the 650.00 bucks to keep it right now. No hassle returns.

I just hope it is remote mount capable reguardless of when it comes out. Manufacturers should know by now that most vehicles do not allow a huge brick to be mounted anywhere anymore. PLEASE ! Paul please have remote mount available, be it like a Whistler or buy a remote head kit I dont care but at least give us the option!

phillydjdan - not very Likeley, Whistler TRX-100 Handheld and TRX-200 Mobile will be out in Q1 2019, months before UNIDEN can deploy a Mobile Version of the SDS100, and the TRX-200 will decode NXDN and DMR completely for FREE. with Uniden you are still stuck behind a PAYWALL for feature the Radio has natively , its just LOCKED OUT until YOU pay.

whistler will not trunk track dmr or nxdn because they dont pay the royalties
your not paying uniden to trunk track your paying the royalties that is why uniden is able to trunk track dmr and nxdn period

Nothing against you personally, but...… As has always been the case, unverifiable "sources" have absolutely no credibility on forums such as this one.

Those really "in the know" never say, and those that say, never really know.

.
wanna bet?
