whistler will not trunk track dmr or nxdn because they dont pay the royalties
your not paying uniden to trunk track your paying the royalties that is why uniden is able to trunk track dmr and nxdn period

But why doesn't Uniden release their scanners with conventional DMR and NXDN as that doesn't require any royalties and just have the trunk track option as a pay per option solution?

I have just a couple of trunked systems, that have so low traffic intensity that I sucessfully can follow conversations using a non trunking TierII DMR radio, and 30-40 non trunked systems.

Plus, I think there are royalties to be paid to DVSI for the AMBE that is used. Although I think, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that P25, DMR, and NXDN use the same chip for that. If chip is the right word.

So, there might be more than one licensing fee to be paid to get the whole thing working.

That is not a true statement. All implementations of DMR, even conventional, require you to use Motorola proprietary intellectual properties and require the payment of a royalty to ethically and legally use.

That's what I thought, as Whistlers TRX costs almost as much as Unidens x36 but the quality of hardware and software of a TRX indicates a more low budget approach. So the extra money you spend directly up front on a TRX, that seems unappropriatly high, goes to the licenses and have nothing to do with them being potential cheapskates that avoids any trunk tracking fees. Well, maybe Uniden got a trunk track patent that Whistler refuses to pay per scanner sold.

But Uniden doesn't even think there is such thing as DMR conventional, because in order to actually program a talk group ID with a conventional DMR frequency, you have to program it as a trunking system. LOL.
