I had this happen with a 4K LG computer monitor. Was fine when I went to bed and the next power on, vertical line. That’s really a bummer but it could possibly be a hardware failure with the LCD. Call iCom and talk to them. Sorry…

Buy another one. I will happily take that one off your hands for a reasonable price. I mostly listen to my radios.

Contact Icom America. They will probably tell you that your radio needs to be sent in for service. If your radio is out of warranty, they may charge you to replace the display or they may not.

Known issue with 7300/9700 display modules made in 2016 and early 2017. What he said, Icom will probably have you send in the rig but if it's OOW, you may be on the hook for a new display module.

Yeah I just assume keep it as it is cause one thin line wont bug me too much. But no idea if this will get worse! I heard it costs $300 to replace the screen but I could be wrong. Not worth it to me. The damn radio is HARDLY USED and lightly used....never TX with full power. Its about 1.5 years old and 6 months outta warranty (of course) So I will call ICOM after weekend and see what they tell me.

If folks here are saying that this is a very common, known issue with this model produced during a certain range of years, which can be further narrowed down to a specific production run, there is basis for a more serious engagement with iCom. If they know exactly which units are affected and that it’s a decent percentage of units, those units should be fixed on iCom’s dime… just sayin.

Yes I agree. But I will probably have to prove the age of radio. I know Icom repair in Washington state has all my information when I last sent it in for a repair last year. So I am hoping they will see that this radio is one of the bad ones.

Depending on who you get at Icom, you may get labor comp'ed and get charged for the module, the repair done, or the one lady who is known to be salty with customers and told to "Send it in with a credit card for full payment".

These LCD modules were outsourced from someone who didn't use quality adhesive on the flex cable that connects to the contacts on the LCD substrate and thus, the "lines". One thing for sure, if this is the cause, it WILL get worse over time as that glue breaks down.

Unfortunately every time I call I get a voice mail...I left my name & number and brief description but no one calls back....I did this 2 times! This sucks because I dont want to let this problem going nowhere.

That was my experience sending a 5100 in for repair. They aren't very communicative. You may try emailing them, seems like I got a snarky canned response at first, but once the radio got to them, they turned it around pretty quick.

Sheesh, I’m sorry you’re having problems! Keep on them.

Your experience hopefully offers some perspective to people here that complain about how bad certain companies are about support… Sure, some provide prompt service, but I think slow service is perhaps more common these days…

I've seen this comment pop up on the 7300/9700 groups. Getting Icom to do it is expensive.

Someone on the facebook group did the replacement at home: Log into Facebook

I'm with you, I'd leave it if it pops up on mine.

Common issue, and you can buy a replacement screen - no soldering required, it's all ribbon cable captive connections to refit:
RFE430V-AZW-DNS RAYSTAR OPTRONICS
Around USD $29 from TME electronics group in Poland.

But then, this your problem & this message is all a figment of your imagination. I was booted out of another IC-7300 group, "no such issue ever existed" & "anti-Icom troll, they don't have this problem". Sheesh.

I have a question, The Icom part number is REF430V-AZH-DNS (H = H:LED, High Light White )

The above part number from Poland is REF430V-AZW-DNS (W = W:LED, White ) This is the only one TME sell.

AZH and AZW is for the Backlight, did you notice any great difference in the display from Poland.
