First of all, don't blame me for the coverage reports because I had nothing to do with them. I was located in Sea Bright the entire time and could not receive the system during the time which the county is doing coverage tests. And second of all you always say the same exact thing. You complained when people on here discussed Newark police. You make it sound like anyone who discusses coverage of these systems will soon be responsible for that system going encrypted. That is a totally ridiculous assumption. But if you have some inside information which documents these systems go encrypted after we discuss things on here then please do share

I never blamed you personally. I made a general statement. Quit taking everything so personally. It's almost as if you have a guilty conscience about some of this stuff, you're always getting offended so easily.

That's rich coming from you, the guy who for years has endlessly bellyached about the same exact thing everytime encryption comes up. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

You complained when people on here discussed Newark police.
I did? Show me my post where I made any such complaint.

Since you feel so strongly about people who complain about Encryption, and you are the Database Admin, why don't you put out a general message to everyone, saying you do not want any complaints on here about "E". The hobbyists on here use these posts to discuss our hobby , and our feelings about the direction of the hobby. I am sure you can understand that.

You got it wrong. First of all, I'm not a censor, so I'm not here to tell anyone what they can or can't talk about. The point I'm trying to make, which you don't seem to grasp, is that many of us are tired of reading the same complaints over and over again from the same few people. You're not changing any hearts and minds, or policies for that matter, by repeating the same comments over and over again in every NJ thread whenever encryption comes up. Not every newly discovered secure talkgroup requires yet another comment or post complaining about it. Seriously.

Roger that. I am not here to argue, just looking to expand my knowledge and information on communications systems.

Lets just say that some of us here use both clear and encrypted talkgroups on a daily basis. They both have a purpose and I'm all about keeping daily things clear and tactical ops ENC for various reasons. Talkgroups used for testing a new system can go both ways...and while the vast majority of us don't mind general postings like "coverage testing taking place in the new system," its another thing to quote my exact conversation. Because when that is posted all over the web, sometimes its hard for us to deter bosses from saying "encrypt everything" because they don't want that attention all over the web. And as much as I'm an advocate for using ENC where I believe it has its purpose, the boss has the final say and the town boards, County Commissioners, etc. will do whatever that boss recommends. Make sense ?

That's a very reasonable and logical explanation. Makes total sense.

I guess no one has been paying much attention to the 700 cell. Fire Response 5 (TG 30213) has been active the past few days. I assume it's a patch with the UHF cell, as I'm not seeing many affiliations on that talkgroup on 700.

Hearing lots of testing this morning on Police 4 and talking about switching over. It appears that they switched the units on Police 4 over to the 700 system and then patched it back to the 400 system. It is showing only one ID now whether it's dispatch or a unit keying up which would indicate a patch. If anybody is able to confirm.

Note: the new tower which is located in Warren township only has the 700 cell, and is full quieting full signal into Bernards township, and Long Hill township.... I can no longer receive the p25 UHF cell from my location, which is transmitting from Randolph Morristown and other sites which are north of me

I suggest it is not a new tower, but a new site on an existing tower. As of about a month ago there were only cellular antennas on that lattice tower across from the farm. Memory says old PD4 was patched with MIRS AND UASI 4 with most traffic on NJICS via lazy 21 and site 7. Wonder if that patch is still up.

which is patched to UHF.
Why would it be patched? I guess the two systems are not a single core? I’m curious about the architectural decision process I guess.

Edit: looked at the DB entry. As you all know, they are two sites (I believe that means it’s a single core?). Still not sure why they would not just have the same talk group on both sites.

Yes, it's one core/zone controller (4AB), however because the 700 talkgroups are in a different ID range than the UHF talkgroups, they need to be patched. It's pretty easy to patch resources using an MCC 7500 console. They may even have a dedicated console in the core room for that purpose so that the patches don't get knocked down accidentally by dispatchers.

(Edit) To be clear, it's not really patching UHF with 700, it's patching talkgroups. Doesn't really matter what RF resource the talkgroup is coming across, Morris simply decided to create a new set of talkgroups for the 700 cell instead of reusing the existing talkgroups that are active on the UHF cell. Why? Well for one thing, the 700 cell is TDMA, while the UHF cell is not. If the county didn't want to spend the $$$$ on the DDM option, they simply have the "UHF" talkgroups strapped for FDMA as they have always been, with the "700" talkgroups strapped for TDMA. In that case, you effectively ensure that UHF remains FDMA and 700 is TDMA-only.

That makes plenty of sense. Appreciate the lesson!

I'm not hearing anything on UASI 4 on NJICS. So my thought is Long Hill units that were using NJICS to talk to County via the patch to Police 4 are now just using Morris 700, which is patched to UHF.

I want to say late about 2-3 days ago there was an agency that sounded like a municipal PD on UASI 4. It was brief and only a few transmissions. It was the typical “## to county” but I missed who it was and the radio id.
