YEP, they use NextSmell in addition to the Trunked system. Problem with NextSmell is there are gaping holes in coverage in Morris County and Sprint is not adding any new NextSmell sites.

I wouldn't say terrible by any sense of the means. I'm on the Succasunna/Flanders border and my reception is 5/5. Depends on where you are in Flanders I guess. Down in Flanders valley around Rt. 206 it's not as good but not terrible. What has a terrible signal down this way is NJSP TRS. I can barely pick them up even with an antenna on the roof...too many hills and mountains (Mooney Mtn.) in the way.

The reception for the TRS is also way better than the signal Roxbury is putting out. Maybe they should go digital!

I think he was referring to Nextel's poor reception, not the county TRS.

Yes. NextSmell.

When you compare the different cell networks available in Morris County, NextSmell is at the bottom of the list as far as coverage.

I was actualy at the comm. center a few monthes ago, and I thought they had a good system. Alotof towns in Morris County are being dispatched now because the police departments cannot afford to pay the dispatcher's salaries.

What will happen when the iDEN used by Nexthell goes away in 2010? It's funny that a countywide system can work in Morris Co. and not in Bergen. I did see another thread about next generation iDEN being used in So. America. I don't think Sprint will survive

It truly saves money for the taxpayers and gets them quality service.

Bergen is getting a county-wide system. It's currently being staged at Motorola in Schaumburg.

How they will do interop is another issue.

Morris decided to put radios in all police, fire, & ems vehicles in all the municipalities making interop easy. From what I've heard, Bergen wants to put up a single VHF simulcast conventional and single UHF simulcast conventional channel for interop. So unlike Morris where there are multiple interop talkgroups available, Bergen will be limited in concurrent interop conversations.

Good Idea! So it won't get to crazy with multiple talkgroups!

You are missing the point. On the Bergen proposed system if there is one interop conversation going on between a town on VHF and a town on UHF it ties up the interop ability of their system. THe Morris system has the ability to carry on several conversations at the same time.

Bergen System is stupid as far as the interop. Morris County is the 1st county in the state to have true interop and a radio in every active EMS, Fire and Police vehicle and every police desk.

Morris County interops has been working very well also, from what I have been listening to. They are making it difficult for hit and runs to get out of the county without getting stopped, the ones that no one gets the plate number.

Guys..

Here is my question. I am trying to listen to Morris County TRS in Harrison / Hudson County.
Can someone give me the correct frequencies to put into my scanner. Harrison is near Newark
for those who might be unfamiliar with my area. Thanks in advance for any info on this.

Tony
