• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The APX radio is not intended for casual or inexperienced users.

I've seen people on here who are having trouble programming a modern scanner wanting to get an APX radio. Folks, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but this radio is not for you.

LTE is a form of data transmission. It's used by civilian/commercial mobile phones and tablets for data transfer, but in America and Canada, there is a separate LTE service exclusively for public safety to transmit data from their dispatch centers (and systems that connect to them) to their public safety field officers.

LTE and WiFi in an APX radio (or any other public safety grade radio of the modern era) is useless to a consumer.

I got my hands on an apx8000, too bad the apx cps 13 does not work with this radio. I will have to send them out to get an AWIN program.

Hey Chief....Just log onto MOL and download APX CPS 14. It was the first CPS with support for the APX 8000.

What abilities does the bluetooth option give you in these radios?

You can use BT audio accessories and I haven't used a programming cable in months. You can simply connect and program via BT. It's amazing.

Via if your laptop or desktop has a built in bluetooth unit, or do you have to buy some sort of bluetooth /\/\ dongle for that to work? Knowing them, they used some sort of proprietary bluetooth LOL!

Someone earlier mentioned something about texting, possibly through bluetooth and I imagine between a cell phone... any idea on that? Thanks for the reply

I use a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 and it pairs perfectly with it. No need for external add-ons. The only issue I have is when multiple APX radios attempt to pair with it.

You are correct Jay. I am a ham in Denver and rarely listen to the bands and mostly use my digital scanner, I was just about to get the APX 7k or 8k model. Most Public Service agencies out here are now on 800, Think i'll just keep my xpr7550 as well so good thing I read this thread. On the other hand the APX is a high end radio but depending on where you live, the band configuration in it, and audio, makes it a good scanner especially if used in the Los Angeles area. Thats my two cents
