It seems I no longer get MSP communications. Does anyone know why?
What county are you in?It seems I no longer get MSP communications. Does anyone know why?
It wouldn't be too much of a surprise. Although where I live, MSP uses our county Dispatch and LEIN for the lion's share of their traffic. To my knowledge, the only time I heard MSP District 1 on their channels is when they do check in's and check outs.Detroit Post have gone Encrypted so far .
is the rest of the State following .
Basically the only place MSP dispatches itself is in Wayne, Oakland & Macomb counties (District 2). That’s now encrypted. Everywhere else in the state they’re dispatched by the county and whether that’s encrypted depends on the county. Since there are many states beginning with the letter “M”, this post is in reference to Michigan. It wouldn't be too much of a surprise. Yeah I know. I was referring to Michigan. I live in the District 1 area for Michigan State Police.Basically the only place MSP dispatches itself is in Wayne, Oakland & Macomb counties (District 2). Im reprogramming my scanner now, I had to renew my membership and was wondering about MSP, then i saw this post.
I knew good things would come to end. Between stupid scanner apps and Facebook groups. Well, it will be last time paying the premium membership fee.
yea Macomb County as well .MSP with Patrol area in the county use Sherrif Talkgroups. It wouldn't be too much of a surprise. Why can't you continue to pay for a premium membership?Im reprogramming my scanner now, I had to renew my membership and was wondering about MSP, then i saw this post.

I live in a semi rural area. MSP and few county sheriffs was my go too. Scanner is almost a paperweight now. Why keep paying for nothing. Unless you have a solution. I'm just glad I didn't upgrade to the SDS200 last month, went on a camping trip instead. Why can't you continue to pay for a premium membership?
I kind of disagree. Nowadays every unemployed bum can tune into a scanner app to commit crimes, show up to police scenes, etc.. Look up Frauditors on Youtube. Every scanner app need to go bye bye. Unless its a paid subscription ($100/year)Scanner apps and FB groups are playing a minimal role in this shift towards encryption. A lot of the departments are going encrypted due to new FBI CJIS requirements that require any personally identifiable information be encrypted. Some departments are creating a "LEIN" talkgroup to run plates and people on, but that only works well for your county dispatches and the larger departments. It does not make sense operationally for smaller departments to do that.
Hard to say but, it wouldn't take much for it to happen. I know on the other side of the border in Ohio, there are some state agencies who have been encrypting.yea Macomb County as well .MSP with Patrol area in the county use Sherrif Talkgroups.
I know District 3 is clear as of Yesterday . just was wondering if its a plan for all of MSP to Encrypt
The scanner / scanning hobby is what you make of it. My local LEOs flipped the "E" switch years ago. Thankfully my fire & EMS are still clear. Just need to find other things to listen to to keep the hobby interesting: aircraft, rail, amateur radio, etc. If those don't interest you, sell your scanner(s) and move onto something else...Scanner is almost a paperweight now. Well you didn't have to renew it. If it no longer benefits you, stop paying. Not rocket scienceI had to renew my membership

RR's is $30 a year, where were you paying $100 & for what?Every scanner app need to go bye bye. Unless its a paid subscription ($100/year)
+1. My local department (PD & FD) and numerous surrounding departments have gone "E" in the past several years. I simply went back to monitoring aircraft/rail/amateur/business band comms. Honestly, aircraft comms are far more relaxing to listen to.The scanner / scanning hobby is what you make of it. My local LEOs flipped the "E" switch years ago. Where I am, I have Marine, Air, occasionally Amateur Radio & Rail to play with. Don't really play with Public Safety very much.+1. Don't overlook searching through the business/itinerant/GMRS/FRS frequencies. They are a bit like the wild west and almost anything can pop up here. There is also an active thread on "pirates/bootleggers" operating in the UHF Federal band.

Federal bootleggers (was 407.400)
Nothing to do with federal monitoring, other than this was in the federal band. :p Heard a couple of guys on 407.400 analog, no PL. Listened a little while and it was a tower crew. Never can tell what you'll hear and where you'll hear it.forums.radioreference.com
Reception of distant stations is possible in the VHF-low range (30 - 50 MHz) when the band is open.

There are plenty of things left to listen to.
